Purpose of the job:
To maintain a clean, tidy and hygienic environment at all times. Mindful that it is the residents' home; thereby respecting the individual's right to privacy, dignity and independence. All tasks are to be carried out in a courteous, friendly and efficient manner.
Main Responsibilities:
Sitting Room/s, Lounge Areas, Corridors/Entrance Area:
Move chairs out from walls and dust each one
Wash water-proof surfaces, i.e. tables, foot-rests, seats, window sills
Damp dust television screens, videos and/or DVDs
Empty waste bins
Put fresh water in flowers and dispose of withered ones
High dust once a week
Vacuum floors and put chairs back in place
Vacuum floor
Disinfect with a damp cloth all telephones & clock-in machine
Nurse's Station
Clean wash-hand basin
Dust all surfaces, i.e. desks, cupboards, computer screens, window sills
Empty all domestic waste
Vacuum floor
Bathrooms/Toilets and Sluices:
Remove the chair from the bath hoist and wash with appropriate disinfectant
Wash the hoist with a damp cloth
Wash bath and/or shower with an appropriate cleaner
Wash all hand-basins and taps
Wash toilet bowls, seats (top & underneath), toilet lids, handles, and door handles
Wash sluice with appropriate brush & wash down slabs
Wash grab rails, handles, taps etc.
Clean mirrors
Empty bins and replace refuse bags
Refill toilet holders, disposable towel holders and soap dispensers as required
Wash floor
High damp-dust once weekly
Shower curtains to be washed 3 monthly or when soiled
Residents' Bedrooms:
Elevate electric profiling beds daily,
High dust each room once weekly
Damp dust bed-side lockers, chairs, window sills daily,
Sweep/vacuum floors daily
Put fresh water in flowers and dispose of the withered ones
Empty all domestic waste and any other bins in room/s.
Wash and mop all floor surfaces daily, using only hot/lukewarm water
Residents Designated Smoking Area:
Empty ashtrays as often as necessary, mainly in the morning and evening.
Damp dust tables and ashtrays. Clean surrounding areas.
Weekly cleaning rotas are available in each Unit to be filled in and signed.
