Site Reliability Engineer II - (Microsoft 365 Enterprise + Cloud)
We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer with the right mix of systems engineering, data science, software development, AI, online services experience, and passion for quality to envision, design, and deliver Microsoft 365 (M365) Enterprise + Cloud service offerings.
Team Overview
Within the vast framework of M365 Office Engineering Direct (OED), our SRE team is instrumental to the success of Exchange Online. With the service spanning hundreds of components, our goal is clear: ensure unmatched service availability and continually elevate user satisfaction.
What We Do & Our Impact
By implementing proactive engineering solutions, we identify and tackle incidents head‑on, ensuring limited disruptions. Monitoring is our cornerstone, adeptly capturing anomalies beyond conventional systems. Swift diagnostics guide our efforts towards automation, efficiently managing the incident lifecycle from detection to resolution. We prioritize and execute Design Change Requests, ensuring Exchange Online’s evolution aligns with user expectations.
Future – Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML) in Focus
We are integrating predictive analytics to anticipate issues before they manifest. Customized ML models sift through vast data lakes, identifying patterns previously overlooked. Our journey with AI and ML redefines reliability, precision, and the user experience in the M365 suite.
Responsibilities
* Strong aptitude for problem‑solving with a proven track record in debugging complex systems.
* Maintain deep knowledge of industry and cloud technologies, identifying opportunities to implement new tools and processes that improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.
* Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze large datasets.
* Design workflows for high‑throughput, multi‑tenant services, ensuring clean, testable code and maintainability.
* Engage with product engineering teams in code/design reviews, on‑call rotations, incident responses, and telemetry analysis to propose scalable improvements.
* Develop scripts, systems, or platforms that automate moderately complex repetitive operations (monitoring, alerting, deploying, debugging) at scale.
* Analyze telemetry data to identify improvements, contribute to tooling and predictive models, and monitor operational metrics.
* Respond to incidents during on‑call rotations, troubleshoot complex issues, deploy fixes, and document resolutions in post‑mortem reports.
* Mentor and coach less experienced engineers and coordinate with product teams on solutions.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related field.
* Mid‑level software development experience with automation‑related skills in bash, python, PowerShell, or compiled languages like C/C#/C#.
* Knowledge of modern software and system architectures, including load balancing, queueing, caching, distributed systems failure modes, microservices, and network stack.
* Strong troubleshooting skills, including RPC call‑chain analysis and distributed system monitoring.
* Deep understanding of OS‑level concepts such as processes, memory allocation, and networking.
* Experience working on large projects, communicating effectively, and taking initiative.
* Practical experience running large‑scale online systems is an advantage.
