We are seeking a highly capable Production Engineer with a strong process engineering background and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement to lead engineering operations at our medical device contract manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Operations Director this pivotal role combines hands-on engineering expertise with leadership in production, quality compliance, and client-focused delivery.
The Production Engineer is responsible not only for overseeing day-to-day production operations but also for driving innovation initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency within the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Production Leadership:
Oversee day-to-day production to ensure health & safety standards, on-time delivery, quality compliance, and cost-effectiveness. Solid understanding of production KPIs, workflows, and quality stands
Team leadership, including supervisors, engineers, technicians, in a GMP-compliant environment.
Monitor and manage capacity, labour, and equipment utilisation in alignment with production forecasts.
Support and enforce cleanroom and controlled environment protocols.
Engineering & Process Optimisation:
Manage the daily operations and maintenance of production facilities, critical utility systems, including HVAC, water systems, compressed air, and waste management.
Implement and manage preventative maintenance programme for plant services and equipment.
Provide support and guidance on minimizing repeated breakdowns and deviations by ensuring implementation of corrective actions against identified root cause.
Maintain the plant register of equipment and ensure all information are up to date.
Manage stock levels of spare parts and critical equipment.
Oversee and inspect building and renovation projects to ensure compliance with all regulations.
Provide continuous input to enhance productivity and safety from a maintenance perspective.
Lead the implementation of the Operational Excellence/5S program on the site by identifying and implementing improvements.
Manage contractors and critical service providers.
Analyse manufacturing processes using Lean, Six Sigma, and statistical tools to reduce waste and improve yield.
Collaborate with R&D, Quality, and NPI teams to support design for manufacturability (DFM) and scale-up of new products.
Maintain and enhance process documentation, including work instructions, FMEAs, and control plans.
Regulatory & Quality Compliance:
Ensure adherence to GMP, ISO and customer-specific regulatory requirements.
Partner with Quality Department to support internal and external audits, CAPAs, nonconformance investigations, and risk management.
Promote a strong quality culture and ensure team adherence to SOPs, work instructions, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Lead and support innovation projects to improve existing products, reduce waste, and introduce new manufacturing technologies.
Collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Maintenance teams to pilot and scale innovative solutions on the production floor.
Analyse production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for innovation.
Develop and test prototypes or process modifications that can lead to cost reductions or performance enhancements.
Champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the production team.
Support NPI (New Product Introduction) projects, including process development, tooling, and transfer to production.
Lead cross-functional teams for project execution, managing timelines, resources, and reporting
Team Development & Leadership
Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performance engineering team.
Establish KPIs for performance and conduct regular reviews to ensure team alignment and growth.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence

Key Skills and Competencies:
Qualifications;
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, Industrial, or Process Engineering (Master’s
preferred).
5+ years of experience in regulated manufacturing environments, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Proven experience in highly regulated manufacturing environment, including cleanroom operations.
Strong knowledge of FDA, ISO, and GMP of other regulation requirements.
Skilled in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and CAPA systems.
Proficient with ERP/MES systems and manufacturing documentation.
Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
Preferred Experience;
Experience in FMCG, Med device production or contract manufacturing.
Familiarity with polymer processing, assembly automation, or precision machining.
Project management certification (PMP or equivalent) is an asset.
