General Functions:
Under the supervision of the IOM Chief of Mission (CoM) in IOM Ireland for administrative matters, and technical supervision and guidance of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) or a Regional as well as coordination with the AVRR Coordinator in Ireland, IOM Ireland is looking to recruit a medical escort to provide medical escort services to beneficiary(ies) during all phases of their journey under IOM's care, from pre-departure through to handover upon arrival. This is a consultancy agreement and not a full-time position. Assignments usually last a few days, depending on the case, and can be declined if the timing is not suitable.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
* Pre-departure: Review medical files, coordinate with IOM medical teams/specialists, confirm airline medical clearance, prepare the Medical Escort Plan (MEP), check escort kit/medications, and brief beneficiaries and families.
* During travel: Conduct fitness-to-travel checks, accompany and monitor beneficiaries throughout the journey, administer medications/oxygen, document clinical observations, liaise with cabin crew, and respond to emergencies.
* At transit/port of entry: Report to IOM staff, stay with beneficiaries during layovers, arrange urgent medical care if needed, and remain available until safe continuation.
* Upon arrival: Hand over beneficiaries to responsible entities (hospital or designated party), complete and submit required forms, return equipment, and ensure clear communication of onward travel arrangements.
Education & Experience:
* University Degree in Medicine or Nursing from an accredited academic institution.
* A valid license to practice in the country of his/her residence/citizenship.
* Minimum of four years of clinical experience.
* Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
* Clinical specialty linked to the medical profile of the escorted beneficiary,
* Fluency in English.
* Appropriate language skills to be able to communicate with the escorted beneficiary (ADVANTAGE).
