TITLE OF POST: Research Fellow - Requirements Engineering for AI
LOCATION: University of Limerick
REPORTS TO: Project Leader
CONTRACT TYPE: Specific Purpose (12 months)
SALARY SCALE: €65,237 - €71,085 p.a. pro rata
JOB SYNOPSIS:
The position will investigate the design and development of techniques, tools, and exemplars for specifying and satisfying requirements for Machine Learning (ML) applications grounded in formal methods and informed by software engineering practice. The aim is to strengthen engineering practices and improve the way ML applications are developed and deployed. The research will be carried out as part of an industrially funded project entitled RE4AI: Requirements Engineering for Artificial Intelligence Systems. The work will take place within Lero (the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software) in collaboration with academic and industrial partners. The post holder will work closely with project investigators (Dr Amel Bennaceur and Dr Faeq Alrimawi) advising on software development solutions and promoting responsible research software engineering practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* A doctoral degree (level 10NFQ) in software engineering, with a focus on SE4AI or related field.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:
* Defining research objectives and carrying out substantive, original and significant research which supports research in Lero.
* Developing methods and techniques appropriate to the type of research pursued that add to the intellectual understanding of the field and play a leading role in regional, national/international collaborative research projects.
* Writing Up and dissemination of research work forpublication.
* Contributing to patents/commercial application (asappropriate)
* Contributing to major research grant applications to support researchprojects(asappropriate)
* Attracting funding throughnetworking.
* Contributing to institute/department’s research Income viafunding.
* Possibly co-supervising or be a becoming a member of a supervisionpanel.
* Supervising a researchteam.
Essential Criteria:
·A doctoral degree (level 10NFQ) in software engineering, with a focus on SE4AI or related field.
* At least two publications in top-tier journals or conferences (top10%)
* Experience with applied research in at least one of the following areas: requirements analysis,testing, evolutionary methods.
* Proven ability to define research objectives and evidence of substantial researchexperience.
* Evidence of developing methods and techniques appropriate to their specificresearch.
* Experience designing and prototyping software engineering tools.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Criteria:
* Two years of experience in applying and contributing to major research grant applications to support research projects.
* Evidence of attracting funding through a personal network andreputation.
* Experience of co-supervising or as a member of a supervisionpanel.
* Experience of supervising the work of a researchteam.

Recruitment Procedures used at the University of Limerick (UL)
