Role Summary:My client is a really interesting biotech looking for a Principal Scientist to join and take on responsibility for leading preclinical development activities from discovery to IND-enabling studies. Day-to-day, you’ll provide hands-on technical leadership, mentor junior scientists, and ensure the successful translation of novel therapeutic candidates toward the clinic. You will be the kind of scientist that has a broad understanding of the pre-clinical, drug discovery up to translational processes, a strong communicator, collaborator and confident contributor both in the lab and operational perspective.Key Responsibilities:Lead end-to-end preclinical development, from lead identification and optimisation through IND-enabling studies.Design and oversee experimental plans to advance complex biologics or gene-modified products.Support translational research strategies and regulatory documentation preparation.Mentor and develop junior scientists, sharing best practices and industry standards.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones and budgets.Stay current on emerging trends in advanced therapies, biologics, and regulatory expectations.Essential Experience & Skills:5–7+ years in industry as a Principal Scientist or equivalent role in biotech/pharma.Proven track record advancing complex biologics or gene-modified therapies through IND-enabling studies.Demonstrated expertise in optimising lead candidates for preclinical development.Comprehensive understanding of the full preclinical development lifecycle.Strong mentoring and interpersonal skills, with experience developing junior scientists.Comfort working in a biotech environment with dynamic timelines and budgets.Desirable Experience:Exposure to advanced therapeutic modalities such as cell therapy, regenerative medicine, or novel delivery systems.Familiarity with oncology indications or other high-value clinical targets.Additional Details:Competitive salary depending on experience.Future equity or bonus incentives planned as the company continues to grow.Flexible, collaborative environment suited to biotech professionals looking for impact and ownership.If you're the kind of candidate that is looking to help drive cutting-edge therapeutics toward the clinic, I'd love to understand more about your career aspirations and how this role could fit in with your next step!I am expecting this role to be heavily over subscribed.
