Job Description
We are hiring a
Senior Medical Scientist -Haematology / Blood Transfusion
to aHospital in Limerick,Ireland.
This is a Full-time (35 hours per week), Permanent position.
Responsibilities
Assist in organising and coordinating the Haematology / Blood Transfusion service.
Support the implementation and maintenance of quality management systems within the laboratory.
Ensure laboratory services meet patient care needs in line with hospital mission, vision, and values.
Participate in training, mentoring, and supervising laboratory staff and students.
Promote teamwork and healthy working relationships within the department.
Implement operational processes according to best practice standards to optimise resources.
Participate in quality assurance, clinical audit, and continuous improvement programmes.
Ensure all laboratory samples are processed according to standard operating procedures.
Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital information.
Participate in internal and external quality control activities and provide statistical/management information when required.
Support the development and maintenance of the laboratory information system.
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, laboratory regulations, and accreditation standards including ISO ***** and EU Blood Bank directives.
Assist laboratory management in accident prevention and safety management procedures.
Participate in continuing education, research activities, and professional development initiatives.
Promote open communication and demonstrate behaviour aligned with the hospital's mission and values.
Requirements
BSc in Science (Applied Science) Honours Degree.
Master's level qualification in a relevant specialty area is essential.
Current registration with CORU.
Ability to work in a specialist Senior Medical Scientist role.
Strong knowledge of Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory practices.
Understanding of quality management systems and laboratory accreditation standards.
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and risk management procedures.
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and maintain professional relationships.
Excellent communication, leadership, and training skills.
Willingness to participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
