Financial Accountant – Engineering Group
The Company
A well-established engineering group with multiple operating entities, delivering complex projects and long-term customer contracts. Due to continued growth, we're hiring a Financial Accountant to support group reporting, statutory compliance, and management information across the entities.
The Role
Reporting to the senior management, you'll play a key role in ensuring accurate accounts preparation, reporting, and timely compliance across the group. This is a hands-on role with genuine variety, ideal for someone who enjoys a busy and fast paced environment while staying close to the numbers.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare monthly management accounts
* Month-end close: accruals, prepayments, journals, reconciliations, intercompany and group recharges
* Variance analysis vs budget/forecast, with clear commentary for stakeholders
* Support annual statutory accounts preparation and audit
* Tax compliance: VAT returns, RCT/CIS where relevant, corporation tax packs and liaising with external tax advisors
* Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register and depreciation
* Assist with budgeting/forecasting cycles and margin analysis (project or contract-based exposure an advantage)
* Strengthen internal controls and drive process improvements across the finance function
* Support ad-hoc finance projects as the group scales (systems, reporting, governance)
Candidate Profile
* Newly or recently qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with relevant experience
* 2–5 years' experience in financial accounting/management accounting, ideally within engineering / construction / manufacturing or similar sector
* Strong month-end and reconciliation background; comfortable owning deadlines
* Confident communicator, able to explain variances and challenge where needed
