NSRL Volunteer (National Support & Referral Line) – Ireland
On 9th March 2020, ALONE launched the National Support and Referral Line (NSRL) to support older people who may have concerns or are facing difficulties in Ireland. The NSRL is open Monday to Sunday, 8am–8pm by calling 0818 222 024. The role requires taking calls and acting as the first point of contact to ALONE.
As an NSRL volunteer, you will provide a listening ear, information, and support for older people in a warm, friendly, and professional manner. These calls can be challenging and may include issues regarding mental health and suicidal ideation. ALONE staff will always be there to support you in dealing with difficult situations.
Responsibilities
* Help answer queries from older people regarding Covid-19; this may include providing official information from the HSE or other official sources. All relevant information will be provided to the volunteer.
* Help access information for the older person as required.
* Log all calls into a computer logging system.
* Log support requests for ALONE’s other services such as Support Coordination or Telephone Befriending.
* Report any concerns regarding an older person’s health, safety, or welfare to the NSRL coordinators.
* Act in a friendly but professional manner on the NSRL to ensure a positive experience for the older person.
* Be mindful of the general wellbeing of the older person and provide a positive experience during the call.
* Work as a member of a team with staff and other volunteers and participate effectively in team meetings when required.
* Attend training and follow ALONE guidelines throughout your time with ALONE.
* Participate in ALONE volunteer surveys and assist older people in ALONE service surveys when possible.
* Participate in check-in calls with NSRL Coordinator to discuss any issues or address challenges in your role.
Requirements
* All volunteers must have access to a laptop or desktop as all calls are answered through a computer, and access to a confidential and private space for answering calls.

Sanctuary Runners – Clare
Sanctuary Runners was set up to enable Irish residents to run alongside, and in solidarity with, migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees, thereby fostering friendship, positivity, and respect while bringing greater awareness to the migration system. The Movement is committed to providing a friendly, supportive, safe, genuine and welcoming environment for all participants and expects everyone to treat each other with respect and courtesy.
They have groups up and running in Clare and are looking for volunteers with an interest in jogging/running to get involved. They meet on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm for 1 hour to do gentle exercise. This is a great way to meet new people and make new friends whilst staying healthy.
Responsibilities
* Join the core team to support the groups’ expansion.
* Reach out to international protection applicants, migrants and others who are new to your community.
* Arrange a location and time for your group's regular runs.
* Wear the Sanctuary Runners t-shirt at events throughout the year.
* Promote your group using social media, local press and printed materials in the community.

Le Chéile Mentoring
Le Chéile Mentoring provides a one-to-one mentoring service for young people who offend or are at risk of offending. They also provide support to their parents or carers. The overall goal of mentoring is to build trust to enable the young person or parent/carer to develop their skills and relationships.
Responsibilities
* Becoming a volunteer mentor gives an opportunity to empower young people and parents and help them identify and develop their potential through activities, which can improve self-confidence and emotional wellbeing.
* Mentoring involves supporting a young person or parent through activities such as visits to the cinema, bowling, going for a walk, or going for a coffee.
Le Chéile are currently looking for volunteers to support in the Clare area. The volunteer will be matched with a young person or parent for 1–2 hours a week. This role is flexible and can be carried out during the day, in the evening, or at the weekend.
