Freelance Opportunity: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Pharmaceutical Sector (Ireland)
Duration: 12 months (freelance contract)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team within a leading pharmaceutical company in Belgium. This role focuses on mechanical systems engineering for GMP-regulated facilities, covering design reviews, technical coordination, and field execution follow-up.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design, specification, and installation of mechanical systems including:
* HVAC (cleanroom design and classified areas)
* Black and clean utility systems (WFI, PW, CS, nitrogen, steam, compressed air)
* Process piping and chilled water systems
* Collaborate with EPCM contractors and OEM vendors to review design deliverables (P&IDs, layout drawings, equipment datasheets).
* Conduct technical risk assessments and participate in HAZOPs and design qualification reviews.
* Support commissioning, SAT, and FAT activities — ensure alignment with IQ/OQ validation protocols.
* Drive the technical documentation lifecycle, from URS to as-built.
* Interface with cross-functional teams (process, automation, validation, QA, maintenance).
* Ensure all designs comply with EU GMP, ISPE, and GEP standards.
Required Profile:
* Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent by experience).
* 6–8 years of relevant experience in a regulated environment (pharmaceuticals, biotech, or fine chemicals).
* Proven track record in project-based work involving utility systems, HVAC, or mechanical infrastructure.
* Strong familiarity with GMP guidelines and technical standards (ISO, ASME BPE, EN).
* Capable of reading and interpreting P&IDs, 3D models, piping layouts, and equipment specs.
* Excellent communication and technical coordination skills in a multidisciplinary project team.
* Fluent in English; French or Dutch is a plus.
