Your impact
As a Design Manager within our Transportation business, you will play a pivotal role in delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects that shape infrastructure across Ireland, Europe, and globally.
You'll be the driving force behind engineering and technical delivery—working closely with Project Managers to ensure that scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met with precision and innovation.
You'll foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement, encouraging diverse thinking and agile delivery.
Your leadership will empower teams to embrace new technologies and lean, digital processes that enhance efficiency and add value for our clients.
With a strong focus on sustainability and decarbonisation, you'll ensure that designs support safe, inclusive, and socially valuable outcomes.
In this role, you will
Lead the integration of multidisciplinary teams, ensuring technical coordination and delivery excellence.
Champion innovation and digital delivery tools to drive continuous improvement and first-time-right outcomes.
Support budget management, forecasting, and risk mitigation across engineering disciplines.
Communicate effectively with clients, project teams, and internal stakeholders to maintain transparency and trust.
Promote a safe working culture and inclusive leadership, enabling individuals and teams to reach their full potential.
Contribute to business development efforts and technical leadership across Ireland's growing infrastructure portfolio.
Jacobs' Transportation team is renowned for delivering technically complex schemes across Highways, Rail, and Aviation.
From feasibility studies to detailed design and operational support, we provide end-to-end consultancy services to major clients.

Here's what you'll need
You will preferably have a Bachelors or Masters Degree (or equivalent Degree) with proven design management experience gained across a range of infrastructure projects in a multi-disciplinary environment.
It is desirable to be a member of a relevant professional institution with a sound understanding of design management principles and application in a highways or civil engineering environment.
You will have the ability to
Lead and guide others in implementation of relevant standards.
Undertake Design Manager role on highways projects.
Experience in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects where engineering and technical disciplines all had an equal part to play.
Apply relevant assurance processes when working on civil engineering projects.
Apply engineering principles to develop innovative, robust and safe design.
Take account of the priorities of projects, effectively plan, monitor and control the technical delivery of projects to clients.
Understand the factors affecting motivation of project team members.
Excellent organisation skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
