Attached to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar, the focus of AnSEO is to work with academic faculty, school and department staff and student services to review best practices to date, explore current issues, develop proactive and collaborative strategies appropriate to need and facilitate implementation with a view to significantly improving student engagement, progression and successful graduation.
The purpose of this job is to contribute to the design, development and delivery of a range of proactive, early interventions to support students.
AnSEO wishes to appoint an Academic Success Coach to provide for the ongoing development and delivery of a range of student focused, collaborative supports under the Academic Success Coaching programme and other student engagement projects.
The appointee will work closely with MTU students and staff and will be expected to liaise with external partners, including other institutes and professional bodies, as appropriate.
Main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to: Providing guidance, support and information to MTU students who are at risk of academic underperformance/failure/leaving their course at MTU.
Designing and facilitating student success workshops.
Working with relevant academic departments to develop an understanding of particular student progression and success challenges and gain an understanding of how we might develop appropriate early alert and intervention strategies.
Researching and developing useful and targeted materials and scripts in conjunction with academic departments to use in new student academic induction and later years reorientation.
Designing student information events and Just Ask campaigns as appropriate.
Keeping records of all meetings with academic staff and their students as deemed appropriate and in line with MTUs legal responsibilities.
Contributing to the design and development of content and campaigns that serve our objectives to relevant internal and external partners e.g., Academic Departments, HEA, QQI, and National Student Engagement Programme.
Interfacing with academic and administrative offices on behalf of AnSEO, as needed.
Other duties as may be assigned by Head of Function.
The successful candidate will have minimum academic qualifications and experience as follows: Essential Criteria: Have obtained at least Grade D3 in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination (higher, ordinary, applied or vocational programmes) or equivalent OR have passed an examination at the appropriate level within the QQI qualifications framework which can be standard or equivalent or higher OR have appropriate relevant experience which encompasses equivalent skills and expertise assessed as being of a comparable to Leaving Certificate.
Experience in a post which indicates the potential of the applicant to perform the main duties of the post.
Relevant administrative experience which demonstrates a competency on the systems and structures which underpin the functioning of the University.
Ability to relate well to diverse cohorts of students and relevant faculty staff.
Demonstrable experience of report writing.
Event Management experience.
Highly skilled in MS Office, Office 365, TEAMS and Zoom.
Experience of working as part of a team.
Demonstrable ability to work on their own initiative.
Evidence of self-development.
