Metrology Engineer
Plans, designs, coordinates, validates, and implements high‑technology metrology equipment or processes for the inspection of IOLs. Provides engineering support to manufacturing on metrology issues. Researches and instigates new projects which lead to metrology improvements – including transferring metrology technology processes from R&D to production. Works with external research groups to explore collaborative projects and demonstrates analytical skills in problem solving.
Typical Responsibilities
Responsible for project management and planning and liaising with other departments and plants affected by these projects, reporting status to management and highlighting concerns early.
Ensure all projects are completed on agreed timelines, within budget, and comply with H&S and environmental requirements.
Plan and manage projects to ensure effective utilization of resources, liaison with R&D and other Alcon facilities to develop and introduce new products and processes.
Explore opportunities for collaborative projects with external research groups using funding mechanisms such as Enterprise Ireland.
Introduce and validate new equipment or complex new process projects from design through completion in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Initiate and drive cost improvement and LEAN Manufacturing initiatives.
Support and improve existing processes through process analysis and application of engineering principles.
Put effective CAPAs in place for compliance actions within the agreed timeline.
What You Will Bring
Minimum 2 years experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment with project management and metrology solutions.
Preferred experience: Prior experience or knowledge of optics and optical metrology.
5 years’ experience in medical device manufacturing, including cross‑site projects and R&D liaison, regulated industry experience, and project management.
Degree in engineering or physics with applied optics, optical metrology, and opto‑mechanics.
Knowledge and experience of optomechanical systems and associated control systems.
Knowledge of optical design and testing requirements.
Experience with data analysis by statistical methods such as r&R analysis using Minitab.
Project Management best practice experience (e.g., PMBOK).
Knowledge of automated inspection technology.
Knowledge of process engineering, equipment, automation specifications, and GMP validation requirements.
