U.S. Bank is seeking a Senior Application Developer with design and development experience to contribute to our technology initiatives. In this role you will be part of the EU Authorisation Switch Team responsible for delivering highly available solutions in a mission-critical environment. The application handles payment transactions to card schemes and is based on a Stratus OS environment using COBOL.This is a permanent full-time position based in our Arklow Office in Ireland.ResponsibilitiesDesign, code, test, debug, document, maintain, and modify computer programs of high complexity, significance, and riskRecommend solutions to improve business with a focus on core architecture, technology automation and standardsGuide others through change impact analysis while promoting automation-first and DevOps-aligned practicesEstablish, refine and integrate development and test environment tools and software as neededReview, analyse, refine and integrate development and test environment tools and software as neededCreate and recommend improvements to unit, test plans and testing processes based on assessment of organizational needsCollaborate closely with teams in all stages of the software development lifecycle including design, development and testing of the systemDesign basic and detailed program specifications while ensuring that expected performance levels are achieved by managing interfaces, service levels, standards, and configurationsGuide technical staff and business partners to investigate, review, and solve complex, multidisciplinary problemsMonitor operating efficiency and organizational needs of existing application systems and identify opportunities to fine-tune and optimize applicationsDemonstrate solid understanding of the business needs driving the projectsBasic QualificationsBachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience4+ years of real-time application development experience3+ years of experience supporting mission-critical applicationsProven track record in the payments industryPreferred Skills / ExperienceExtensive experience in application design, architecture, SDLC, including Agile and CI/CD practicesAutomation-focused testing and quality engineeringRelease management and change controlApplication maintenance and modernizationIT standards, procedures, and policyModeling (data, process, events, objects)Experience with automated unit, integration, and regression testsTestable coding with mocks and modular designIntegrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and enforcing quality gatesExperience with one or more programming or scripting languages used for test automationSubject Matter Expertise in programming and software engineering best practices with emphasis on early and continuous testingDesirable ExperienceDevelopment in a Stratus VOS environment using COBOL is desirable but not essentialExperience with JIRA, Confluence, Git/Bitbucket and JenkinsCross-organizational agile, portfolio or DevOps experienceSQL database querying proficiencySkills/DispositionResults-oriented with a focus on high-quality solutionsExcellent oral and written communicationTeam player with leadership ability to guide othersStrong interpersonal skills to form lasting professional relationshipsDetail-oriented with ability to meet fixed deadlinesProven multi-tasking capabilityAbility to understand complex requirements and communicate clearlySelf-starter with a focus on high-quality outcomesAnalytical thinker and problem solver who takes ownership and drives resolutionAbility to work under pressure and adapt to changing requirementsLocation expectationsThis role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.AccessibilityWe are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment experience.
