Position Overview
This position is responsible for developing and revising innovative self‑care consumer goods packaging by applying package engineering knowledge to create or improve product packaging, packaging technologies, and processes that give Perrigo a competitive advantage.
Scope of the Role
* Develop and manage existing product packaging for finished goods and incoming product packaging for global personal care products with a focus on categories such as Upper Respiratory, Digestive Health, Pain & Sleep, Skin Healing, Healthy Lifestyle, Infant Nutrition, Oral Care, and Women’s Health.
* Work with marketing and sales groups to develop concepts and packaging designs that meet customer and business needs.
* Serve as packaging development functional lead on multiple project teams, providing technical expertise during planning, development, and execution phases.
* Lead and influence packaging projects cross‑functionally, delivering projects on time and within budget.
* Identify and communicate project risks and drive resolution to meet timing and budget goals.
* Partner with manufacturing/operations and key strategic open innovation partners to develop efficient, cost‑effective, and capable packaging and tooling.
* Support the growth and development of the packaging function in innovation, design, process development, sustainability, open innovation, manufacturing, and related areas.
* Proactively propose and offer new ideas, projects, and methods to support the organization and business.
* Work extensively with external partners and industry leaders to develop solutions to technical issues, drive technology advancement, and develop via Perrigo open innovation strategy.
* Drive project and functional excellence and process improvement with internal customers and peers.
* Collaborate with external partners (component suppliers and global contract manufacturers) to resolve technical issues and advance technology.
* Supervise temporary, contract, or entry‑level associates as needed.
Experience Required
* Third‑level degree in Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering (preferred).
* At least 6 years of packaging development and/or manufacturing experience, including project management.
* Working knowledge of packaging and drafting software including TOPS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and ArtiosCAD.
* Comprehensive understanding and application of technical packaging principles.
* Operate autonomously in drawing, die line and pallet configuration development; packaging material and finished goods specification development; prototype and package mock‑up development; packaging distribution testing; manufacturing support and troubleshooting; and test protocols for packaging material and component evaluations (IQ/OQ/PQ).
* Experience leading projects following documented project management processes.
* Experience developing and validating packaging tooling – thermoform, heat‑seal tooling, etc.
* Knowledge of packaging material properties and component manufacturing processes; basic packaging equipment and manufacturing environment.
* Experience with ISO, FMEA, DOE, and process mapping tools.
* Consumer goods and/or medical device packaging experience (plus).
* Experience applying ASTM and ISTA standards for package testing (plus).
* Proficiency with MS Windows software (Word, Excel), project management software, SAP ERP systems or similar (preferred).
* Occasional travel as required.
