Job Overview
The Process Development Engineer position is in the New Product Development Department, which develops processes and technologies for next generation medical device products. The NPD Metals group work with R&D teams to bring their concepts all the way through to volume manufacturing. Closely aligning all stakeholders to achieve the best product, with greater product efficiencies is the ultimate goal of each transfer project. The transfer process is an ideal window in which to achieve these efficiencies by undertaking DFM, process optimization, sustaining engineering, process automation, supply chain optimization and the application of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Job Requirements
Manage new components through product lifecycle from concept into volume manufacturing
Identify and select product materials, assembly methods and define process settings.
Partner with customers, suppliers, vendors, and internal cross-functional teams to deliver project goals. Build and maintain a network of relationships in all functions (R&D, Operations, Sales, Finance, Purchasing, Quality and Manufacturing).
Work closely with Project Lead and Prototype group to develop, build and test product prototypes.
Work with both internal and external groups to explore and assess new technologies and processes to enable improvements in product performance, cost and reliability.
What your background should look like
Level 8 or equivalent in Mechanical engineering.
Minimum 1 year's industry experience in a medical device R&D/manufacturing environment.
Key Requirements
Ability to follow written and oral instructions with minimum supervision.
Strong technical ability based on a broad and deep knowledge of fundamental engineering principles.
Strong work ethic, creative problem solving, capable of working on own initiative.
Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills essential.
Knowledge of technical and statistical tools such as 3D CAD programs, Minitab and Design of Experiments is an advantage.
Experience/knowledge in development of test methods and associated product testing is an advantage.

About the Role
As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering water treatment solutions across a range of projects. You will lead the process and detailed design of treatment systems, carrying out and reviewing process calculations, mass balances and performance assessments to develop efficient and reliable solutions. You will select and specify treatment processes and equipment—such as coagulation/flocculation, filtration, membrane systems, disinfection and sludge handling—while providing technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle from design to construction and commissioning. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate with engineers and external stakeholders, review contractor and vendor submissions, and support project managers with technical input on risk, cost and programme, ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety and quality standards.

About You
You are a motivated and technically strong engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality infrastructure projects. You bring a strong foundation in water or wastewater treatment design, along with the ability to lead technical work and communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.
Key attributes and experience include:
Bachelor's degree in civil, Environmental, Chemical or Process Engineering, or a related discipline
Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership (or equivalent professional registration)
Proven experience designing water and wastewater treatment infrastructure, ideally delivering projects for Uisce Éireann or other water utilities
Strong technical knowledge of water engineering principles, standards, regulations and industry best practice

Our current portfolio of work comprises a diverse mix of local and national development and civil infrastructure projects at all stages, from Feasibility through to Detailed Design and Construction.
Key duties include supporting the delivery of innovative and cost‑effective solutions to development engineering projects. The role involves design and development of storm and foul drainage networks for housing, industrial and commercial applications. The use of industry standard software models including Microdrainage; knowledge of Flood risk assessments; drafting of design drawings; report writing; site inspections; supervision of CAD Technicians; management of project‑related correspondence; supporting on project information concerning costs and programme.
The successful candidate should be an excellent communicator and able to work closely with private and public sector clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications
A degree in Civil Engineering, and working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer
Previous experience in a design role with specific design experience in some/all of the following: Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems, Storm and foul gravity collection networks, Storm and foul rising pumping stations and rising mains, Water main distribution pipelines, Attenuation and flow control elements, Package wastewater treatment systems, Section 50 applications and Flood Risk Assessments, Familiar with Road and Pavement design including DMRB and DMURS, Site suitability assessments and drainage planning requirements.
Excellent written communication skills
Knowledge of drainage design software such as WinDes (Microdrainage)
Experience in preparation of Public Works Contracts and familiarity with the Capital Works Management Framework is desirable.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3d, Revit or similar drafting and BIM packages.
Familiarity with Engineers Ireland’s Code of Ethics and working towards obtaining the title of Chartered Engineer of Engineers Ireland.
Full Clean driving license.

Relevant experience in design and delivery of civil infrastructure from inception to handover, including SUDs, water main distribution pipelines, storm and foul gravity collection networks, surface water catchment analysis, flood risk assessments, highway and pavement design, earthworks modelling, DMRB and DMURS knowledge.
Experience using industry‑standard software such as Microdrainage or InfoDrainage, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
Experience working in multidisciplinary design teams, effective liaison with architects, planners, consultants.
Experience of site inspections, test witnessing, reporting, answering technical RFIs during construction.
