Overview
Applications are invited for the position of Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist (full time and part time temporary contracts). The role is based on site at St Patrick’s Hospital, Dublin, with potential involvement in other SPMHS facilities as required.
St Patrick’s Mental Health Services seeks a Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to provide high-quality care to service users with mental health difficulties. The Psychology Department delivers a range of psychology-led group programmes and works as part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have experience working with adults or adolescents with mental health difficulties, a strong background in psychological formulation and evidence-based interventions, and a track record in leadership and collaborative service development. Experience delivering groups is desirable.
Note: These positions are onsite only.
Responsibilities
* Report to the Director of Psychology and ensure provision of the highest standards of practice and care within the Psychology Department
* Work as part of multidisciplinary teams, attend meetings, liaise with other professional staff
* Deliver psychological group-based treatment programmes
* Conduct appropriate assessments and provide feedback to teams and patients
* Provide, implement, and document treatment strategies as part of patient care
* Supervise Psychologists in Clinical Training, Assistant Psychologists, and Staff Grade Psychologists as required
* Attend regular professional supervision and participate in CPD and research
* Contribute to department development and activities across different areas of the organisation, including Willow Grove Adolescent Unit, St Patrick’s Hospital, Lucan, and/or with specialised client groups such as older adults
Note: The job description may not be exhaustive and duties may change. The appointee may be assigned targets in terms of tasks and revenue.
Qualifications and Experience
* Recognised university degree or diploma (QQI level 8 equivalent) with 1st or 2nd class honours in Psychology as a major subject; a recognised professional post-graduate qualification in clinical or counselling psychology or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health
* Experience working in an adult or adolescent mental health service
* Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, including postgraduate training in Clinical/Counselling Psychology

Terms and Conditions
* Tenure: Full-time and part-time temporary contracts
* Working Week: 35 hours per week
* Salary: Senior Grade Clinical/Counselling Psychologist pay scale 2025 (€98,484 – €115,761), commensurate with experience
* Annual Leave: 27 days
* Pension: Pension scheme for eligible staff; statutory deductions apply
* Probation: Six-month probation with review; extensions in line with EU Working Conditions
* Health and Character: Must be fit for duty and of good character
* Retirement: Normal retirement age is 66
* Requirement: Written confirmation of completed recognised training in the Mental Health Act by commencement

St Patrick’s Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8, incorporating St Patrick’s Hospital Lucan and all SPMHS Dean Clinics.
