We are seeking a student‑focused, empathetic, and solutions‑oriented Academic Advisor to support students in navigating and succeeding in their academic journey. This role is central to the Academic and Programme Advisory Office, providing high‑quality advice and guidance on programme pathways, curriculum structures, and university regulations, empowering students to navigate and succeed in their academic journey at Maynooth University.
Working closely with the Academic and Programme Advisory Office Manager, the appointee will play a central role in the office’s excellent service provision, the delivery of key campaigns, and the commitment to enhancing service innovation. The appointee will be responsible for delivering accessible, accurate, and student‑centred advice, enabling students to make informed decisions throughout their studies. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Academic and Programme Advisory team, collaborating closely with colleagues within the team and across Student Skills and Success, the Office for Students and Learning, and the broader university community, as well as with the Maynooth Students’ Union.
This position offers the post holder an opportunity to help shape a crucial student service dedicated to empowering students to navigate their academic journeys and achieve their academic goals and success. The post holder will actively contribute to team growth, shared knowledge and the enhancement of academic and programme advisory services, playing a critical role in supporting digital service delivery, including the transition and optimisation of academic processes across evolving digital platforms, with a particular focus on digital and integrated resources and supports, including the use of data‑informed approaches and emerging technologies to enhance service accessibility, responsiveness and impact. The role will also foster strong partnerships and collaborations with university stakeholders, centred around our students.
This role sits within the Student Skills and Success division of the Office for Students and Learning and supports Maynooth University’s strategic priority to expand high‑quality, technology‑enabled student support services in partnership with students. This is a specialist advisory role with a primary focus on service delivery, academic guidance, and operational support, requiring sound professional judgement in interpreting academic regulations in the context of students’ needs.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of relevant experience in student support and/or advisory roles within higher education, demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, have a strong understanding of sectoral best practice, and uphold a student‑centred ethos, combined with a genuine passion for student well‑being, engagement, and success. Reporting to the Academic and Programme Advisory Office Manager, the post holder will play an instrumental role in delivering excellent service, with a keen awareness of the diverse needs of MU students and staff, using data and insight to continuously evaluate and enhance service effectiveness and student outcomes.
The Office is responsible for the delivery of core university processes at critical times in the academic year (normally July and September annually). The Academic Advisor plays an integral role as part of the team in the delivery of service and must be available at critical times.
Salary
Administrative Officer I (2026): €59,812– €85,339 p.a. (9 points) Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
