Anaesthetic Registrar - UPMC Waterford

Overview of role:
UPMC are currently recruiting for Anaesthetic Registrar on a Bank/Casual contract at UPMC Whitfield Hospital.
The Anaesthetic Registrar is a key member of the hospital's clinical team whose primary role is to provide and oversee care to patients in the Operating Theatre, the Cardiac Cath lab, Critical Care Unit and to any other patients in the hospital who require acute medical intervention that can be provided by an Anaesthetic Registrar which includes, but not limited to:
•Emergency situations including airway management
•Follow up of post-operative surgical patients
•Acute decompensation of patients
•Any patients with fluid management issues including difficult vascular access
•Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
•Acute pain management
The Anaesthetic Department at UPMC Whitfield is a consultant delivered service. The team consists of an Anaesthetic Consultant who will work in collaboration with the Anaesthetic Registrar in patient care and in formulating management plans for patients.

Clinical Duties:
As
an employee of UPMC, you will also have the responsibility of:
* Provide services in
Anaesthesia including diagnosis, treatment and care for patients, both
inpatient and outpatient.
* Participate in
departmental teaching/education programs.
* Participate in research
in Anaesthesia.
* Participate in an
out-of-hours Anaesthetic Registrar roster.
* Participate in
administrative matters as required by the General Manager or Clinical
Director of UPMC Whitfield
* Participate in continuous quality
improvement activities.
* Observe all hospital
policies and procedures and statutory regulations.
* Actively participate in and contribute to
the organisation's Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety
processes, including the development and implementation of safety systems,
improvement initiatives and related training, ensuring that quality and
safety improvement processes are in place and acted upon.
* To ensure in consultation with the
General Manager, Medical/Clinical Director that appropriate medical cover
is available at all times having due regard to the implementation of the
European Working Time Directive as it relates to doctors.
* To supervise and be responsible
for diagnosis, treatment and care provided by the Resident Medical Officer
(RMO) treating patients under the Consultant's care.
* To participate as a right and obligation
in selection processes for Resident Medical Officers and other staff as
appropriate.
* To participate in clinical audit and
proactive risk management and facilitate production of all
data/information required for same in accordance with regulatory,
statutory and corporate policies and procedures.
* The Candidate can expect to be allocated
duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the
capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons
occupying jobs at this classification level
* Participate and Attend all code blue calls or INEWS calls
within the hospital

* Will document and sign clearly all medications prescribed and administered prior to,during and post surgical intervention

* Participation, within the departmental framework and guidelines, in research which may be multi-institutional (ICORG) or internal.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Medical degree, MBBS pr equivalent
* Current Full Medical Council Registration
* Fellowship of the College of Anaesthetists is desirable
* At least 5 years' experience as an Anaesthetic registrar in an acute hospital setting.
* Current ACLS and BLS
