This is a backend-first full‑stack role focused on building and evolving a scalable, AI‑powered platform. The position is split roughly as follows: 80% Node.js/TypeScript backend, 10% Angular frontend, and 10% Python AI services, Python‑based LLM orchestration layer. A forward‑thinking team using Cursor as their primary development environment, powered by Claude AI for seamless AI‑assisted coding.
In this Senior Backend / Systems Engineer role, you will: Design, build, and implement end‑to‑end systems with a focus on architecture, integration, and long‑term maintainability rather than only feature development or routine maintenance. Apply strong systems‑design skills to understand how components interact, communicate, and depend on one another, optimising for reliability, performance, and observability. This role is ideal for a senior‑level engineer who thrives on solving complex systems problems, shaping architecture, and driving production‑scale backend and cloud infrastructure.
Ideal Profile:
5‑10 years of experience with Node.js (NestJS/Fastify) and TypeScript in production‑scale backend systems.
Strong background in systems design and distributed systems, with the ability to reason about component interactions, failure modes, and data flows.
Extensive experience designing and building REST APIs and integrating them with frontend and backend services.
Solid database skills, including schema design and query optimisation (preferably PostgreSQL).
Experience with test automation using Jest and Playwright.
Hands‑on experience deploying and operating AWS EKS Kubernetes clusters, databases, and related cloud services in a production environment.
Comfortable working in a container‑only, Kubernetes‑first environment without standalone VMs.
Exposure to global, multi‑region deployments on Kubernetes.
Practical experience with Python and at least one modern frontend framework (Angular, React, or Vue).
As a Senior Engineer, you should have a proven track record of influencing team and architecture decisions, mentoring others, and working collaboratively in a technology‑driven environment.
