3548 EMER4235 Consultant in Emergency Medicine Naas General Hospital for 37 hours per week
This is an appointment to the HSE Dublin & Midlands Region on a Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023 by the Health Service Executive. The initial commitment for this post will be to Naas General Hospital for 37 hours per week. This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services. It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE’s National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.
Main Duties of the Job
This is a new post to support the existing Consultants in the delivery of Emergency Medicine in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients.
The post holder will work with doctors in training and work closely with the interdisciplinary team to achieve best outcomes for their patient cohort.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop new services of his / her expertise in line with the National Clinical Programmes.
To lead the delivery of high quality patient centred care for patients attending the Emergency Department.
To deliver high quality care to patients and to provide comprehensive assessments as required.
Together with colleagues in the Department, contribute to the general work of the Department e.g. organising rotas, teaching schedules, chairing meetings, directing the operations of the acute floor etc.
Together with colleagues, take a leadership role in the measurement of performance and the development of services and pathways that improve care and outcomes for patients.
To collaborate and work closely with the multidisciplinary team, managerial and administrative staff and external agencies.
Information about the organisation
Naas General Hospital is a 243 bedded acute public hospital serving the catchment area of Kildare and West Wicklow with a population of more than a quarter of a million people. The total population of Kildare alone increased to 247,774 in the 2022 census (253,600 in the 2025 Census).
Emergency Medicine is an integral specialty in Naas General Hospital along with General Medicine, Respiratory, Endocrinology, Geriatric Gastroenterology, Oncology, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Haematology, Nephrology, Neurology and Palliative Care Medicine along with the Acute Medical Assessment Unit.
Emergency Medicine provides care and services including comprehensive assessments of patients in the delivery of a comprehensive Consultant lead service.
The post holder will be expected to adhere to the key performance indicators.
Long-term employment
The appointment is whole‑time, permanent and pensionable.
The annual salary will be as set out in the Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023. Medical Consultants Salary Scales from 1st February 2026: €235,862 €248,612 €262,070 €269,154 €276,236 €283,318.
The standard working week applying to the post is: 37 hours per week.
The annual leave associated with the post is: 30 Working Days per annum.
