Join us as a Core Network Engineer
This position resides in the Data Core Network Design team; a team which is accountable for ensuring the delivery of all designs for NFVI Infrastructure, EPC, 5G Core, IOT Slice, and DNS Core flows. Your focus will be related to (but not limited to) EPC and 5G Core design deliverables. The role will report into the Data Core Design Manager and will support the team in performing vendor management for any outsourced design services, ensuring wrap-around design continuity towards VAS, Service Layer, RAN, Transmission, IP, IT, and Service Delivery, as well as towards Test and Operations for both strategic and development change for the Core Networks. Your role will contribute to all aspects of the development of the future network (design/add, change and/or increase the networks services and resources for capacity, features and functionality). Whilst you will act as a point of technical accountability, you will work with functional stakeholders to ensure that the right responsibility levels are established - working to exercise influence without direct authority. Your approach will be customer focused and aligned to the commercial goals of the business. You will also drive our values in day to day technical and operational choices. You will be the technical authority for LTE EPC and 5G Core and responsible for the design and technical delivery of LTE EPC/5GC.
What else it involves
* Responsible and accountable for capacity management, you will provide innovative solutions to ensure cost effective growth, engage with vendors and stakeholders to ensure that Mobile Core networks elements do not cause bottle necks that affects the customer experience.
* Responsible for driving through the Core Design deliveries from Solution Design through; High Level Design, Low Level Designs, Databuild, and to a successful handover into Core Operations for implementation.
* Be responsible for design deliveries for Mobile Core elements and the interface to other network element within the wider core network architecture.
* Collaborate with wider Core and RAN design and operations teams to ensure end-to-end design management, and prioritisation of the business needs.
* Align with Core Programme Delivery team to provide insight into detailed project planning. Work closely with project managers through project life to maintain timelines.
* Coordinate with the Test team to ensure correct definition of test object list and to review test execution results to ensure successful implementation of new designs and solutions.
* Support Core Operations to ensure design process outputs are translated into accurate node configuration and Method of Procedure integration documentation.
Skills we’re looking for
* Educated to degree level in an Engineering/Telecommunications/Computer Science discipline, or equivalent experience
* 5+ years experience in packet core network design and lifecycle management, including experience working on performance and capacity management projects
* Experience working within ITILv4 framework, with hands experience using BMC tool (Helix) for creation and tracking of implementation CRQ’s
* Proven track record in striving for continuous improvement and driving efficiencies, whilst maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
* Excellent working knowledge Mobile Core networks architecture, elements, and associated protocols and 3GPP interfaces such as: SIP, GTP, DIAMETER, RADIUS, SIGTRAN, BICC, MAP, Cap and INAP etc.
* Good understanding of IoT technologies, including NBIoT, Cat-M, PSM, eDRX and REDcap.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to engage different areas of the business at varying levels of technical capability.
Nice to have:
* Good working knowledge of 3G MCC elements and associated interfaces, including key protocols e.g. GTP, DIAMETER, RADIUS, SIGTRAN, BICC, MAP, Cap and INAP etc.
* Experience of working with Ericsson core network systems.
* VoIP/VoLTE/VToW/VoNR deployment and testing experience
* Knowledge of IPv6 implementation in a telco environment
* Knowledge of Automation APIs including Python programming language, Ansible, Netconf, Restconf, Postman tool and REST.
* Working knowledge of IP networks, SD-WAN preferably with experience with the prime IP vendor equipment
* Cisco/Juniper network certification ( CCNA and CCNP) also nice to have.
