Toolmaker Technician III Job Description
Boston Scientific Clonmel is seeking a skilled Toolmaker Technician III to support manufacturing engineering, operations, and new product development by turning CAD designs into precision tooling, fixtures, prototype moulds, and functional prototypes.
Responsibilities
* Program, set up, and operate 3/4/5 axis machines (FANUC, HAAS, Doosan, DMG Mori), EDM wire & Die sinker, manual lathe, manual mill, and surface grinder.
* Machine a variety of materials to create precision tooling, fixtures, moulds, and prototypes.
* Analyse specs, determine required tools and equipment, and apply material expertise and machining strategies.
* Interpret blueprints, layouts, sketches, or non-dimensioned CAD models to plan and carry out efficient, high-quality machining.
* Ensure machined parts meet all dimensional, surface finish, and functional standards.
* Choose the best, most efficient machining methods without compromising quality.
* Uphold the highest standards of quality and safety.
Requirements
Education and Experience
NFQ Level 7 engineering/toolmaking trade qualification; 5+ years' experience. Medical device experience preferred.
Skills and Qualifications
* CNC programming skills for complex prototype work.
* Multi-axis machining experience required.
* Proficient in 3D CAD & CAM (Solidworks, MasterCam, SolidCAM or similar).
* Experienced in 3D machining.
* Skilled in machining titanium, stainless, tool steels, ESD plastics, ceramics, engineering plastics.
* Tool and fixture design experience is a plus.
* Mould making/maintenance and EDM experience desirable.
