Overview of role:
The Data Migration Build Team Member will play a pivotal role in supporting the Cúram Electronic Health Record (EHR) system across UPMC Ireland. You will report to the EHR Data Migration Workstream Lead. This role ensures that all data transferred—clinical, administrative, and demographic—is accurate, complete, and fit for use. This role provides tactical leadership for the Data Migration workstream, ensuring alignment with clinical operations, financial systems, and overall programme goals. This position requires strong leadership in health data transformation and hands-on experience with large-scale healthcare data migration projects. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of EHR data structures, clinical informatics, ETL processes, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure data readiness for go-live and long-term use. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
General Accountabilities
The Data Migration Build Team Member will support the Data Migration Workstream Lead in delivering the Data Migration workstream for the Cúram EHR implementation within UPMC Ireland. The role involves assisting in executing tasks within the project scope and governance, including stakeholder coordination and milestone tracking. The member will collaborate with the Data Migration Workstream Lead and other workstream members to ensure alignment with Data Migration operations and programme goals. Additionally, the role includes contributing to the documentation of workflows, system configurations, and testing different outcomes (e.g. interoperability, data migration, reporting, end-user devices) to support a seamless end-user experience.
Stakeholder Engagement:
* Serve as a secondary liaison to the clinicians and supporting staff, ensuring data migration design meets clinical documentation and workflow needs.
* Support data migration engagement sessions, adoption planning, and go-live readiness efforts.
* Recommend policy changes and process improvements related to system use to drive efficiencies and improve outcomes.
* Facilitate regular data migration workgroup meetings, track milestones, document decisions, and escalate risks.
* Act as a liaison between data migration functions and the EHR implementation team.
* Provide hands-on support during go-live and stabilisation phases, ensuring continuity of operations and rapid issue resolution relating to data migration.
* Collaborate with the training team to ensure technical and other relevant users are adequately trained on data migration processes within Meditech and associated applications.
* Support the planning and delivery of handover training to the future EHR BAU team members.
* Collaborate with data migration governance to support ongoing optimization and training needs.
Workflow & System Design:
* Support the development and oversight of the data migration strategy and roadmap, including source system analysis, mapping specifications, transformation logic, migration tools, and retention of non-migrated, legacy data.
* Support ensuring the migration scope covers all relevant clinical and business domains
* Collaborate with clinical, business and technical teams to support end-to-end data integrity across modules.
* Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for data migration-related functions in MEDITECH.
* Collaborate with MEDITECH analysts and operational leaders to design and validate data migration workflows into MEDITECH Expanse.
* Review system functionality related to data migration functions.
* Support ensuring the data migration architecture supports clinical workflow needs, minimizes duplication, and promotes data accuracy and accessibility.
* Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to data sharing, consent, and third-party access in accordance with privacy legislation.
* Collaborate with MEDITECH technical resources to understand destination data models and system constraints.
* Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data handling, de-identification (if needed), retention compliance, data sharing, consent, and third-party access.
Implementation Support, Data Validation & Testing:
* Support Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) processes, ensuring accurate mapping and clean transformation of legacy data into MEDITECH.
* Support data validation efforts, including Field-level and cross-system comparisons, Clinical review and sign-off, Reconciliation reporting
* Support rounds of test migrations and execute the final cutover plan in alignment with project go-live.
* Support the identification and resolution of data quality issues, duplication, and inconsistencies that may impact clinical care, business operations or reporting.
* Support testing activities for data migration unit testing, system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), and data migration simulations.
* Support the troubleshooting of issues in collaboration with IT, finance, and clinical teams.
* Support change management within the data migration team and the wider organisation, addressing workflow impacts, practice changes, and documentation requirements.
* Facilitate standards development processes and actively engage data migration SMEs in design and optimization discussions.
* Support efforts to validate data migration integrity, data quality, and system performance across all connected platforms.
* Support data migration and normalization activities, especially for historical records or external data sources.
* Act as the escalation point for troubleshooting data migration-related issues during go-live and stabilization.
Documentation & Governance:
* Support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including current state/future state maps, risk/issue logs, decision registers, benefits registers, and change logs.
* Support governance processes by preparing materials for the Technical Design Forum and senior management meetings.
* Support the definition and tracking of key performance indicator (KPI) readiness, adoption, and post-go-live performance.
* Assist in documenting lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Support ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to clinical safety and digital health.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
* Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare IT, with at least 2 years in a data migration or data integration leadership role.
* Proven experience with EHR system data migration, preferably including clinical and patient data.
* Strong understanding of healthcare data standards, including HL7, FHIR, and clinical coding systems (ICD-10, SNOMED, LOINC).
* Good project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
* Good analytical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across clinical and operational teams.
Preferred:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
* Prior experience migrating data into or from MEDITECH Expanse or MEDITECH 6.x or equivalent capabilities with other major EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Oracle Health).
* Experience with legacy system decommissioning, archiving, or clinical data repositories.
* Knowledge of privacy and health data legislation.
* Knowledge of clinical decision support, change management methodologies (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR), and regulatory requirements.
* Experience developing training resources and SOPs.
