Post Title: Assistant Lecturer in Printed TextilesGrade: NCAD Assistant LecturerSchool/Unit: School of Design, Department of Design for Body & EnvironmentPost Duration: Full time, PermanentReports to: Head of Department of Design for Body & EnvironmentSalary: NCAD Assistant Lecturer salary scale - €48,437 - €65,899* per annumCandidates should note that as per Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform guidelines, entry will be at the minimum point of the scale and the rate of remuneration will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. It empowers its students to shape the contemporary world through critical practice, studio-based learning, research and engagementThe School of Design within the College comprises of 3 departments:Design for Body and Environment (BA Fashion Design, BA Jewellery & Objects, BA Textile & Surface Design and MA Circular by Design).Product Design (BA and MA Product Design, BA and MA Interaction Design, MSc Medical Device Design and MA Service Design)Communication Design (BA and MA Graphic Design, BA and MA Illustration, BA Moving Image Design)The aim of the School of Design is to create a design culture engaged in ongoing debate on all aspects of design; a culture that thrives on new ideas, new ways of doing things and new areas of exploration. We encourage our students to experiment and take risks in order to carve new aesthetic paths and make technical innovations within, and beyond, their design discipline. We have extensive links with Industry, and students regularly work on live projects within a commercial, social or cultural context. The College seeks to ensure that our design students develop the necessary creative, technical, thinking and interpersonal skills to become highly employable graduates, entrepreneurs and thought leaders.The BA Textile & Surface Design aims to develop our student's full creative potential as a designer of the textiles and surfaces that will surround us in the future. Throughout the programme our students develop their knowledge and expertise through the use of traditional and new design and production processes. Students are encouraged to challenge the possibilities for textile & surface design and develop a broad range of skills that will allow them to pursue a career in the textile and surface design industries for fashion, accessories, interiors and the broader design field.The programme is driven by design briefs and producing design outcomes for fabrics and other materials and surfaces. NCAD offers a range of facilities for realising textile design work including digital print, screen print, transfer print, constructed textiles, loom-weaving, knit and laser cutting, which enable our graduates to fully develop their textile and surface designs.This post will be an integral part of the academic staff within the discipline, department, School and College. Lecturing staff actively contribute to the learning & teaching, research & knowledge transfer and internationalisation agendas of the College.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesActively contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Department of Design for Body & Environment and across the School of Design, in particular the BA in Textile & Surface Design, including module and programme development and design, coordination, delivery, examination and assessment, quality assurance and enhancement and associated administration.Develop and implement new course curriculum within the department, and in particular for the Printed Textiles specialism, including the co-ordination of course content, delivery and assessment.Enhance and promote the reputation of our academic provision by liaising and co-operating with other national and international institutions.Ensure the curriculum content of our programmes reflect and meet with the requirements of related industries, including regularly reviewing and adapting course content and structure.Engage in the student recruitment process including interviews, selection, assessments and examination procedures as required to ensure appropriate number and level of student cohort.Undertake and publish high quality research and scholarship in your field of expertise/specialist interestEngage with industry and research partners, leading commercialisation projects and knowledge exchange activitiesSupervise post graduate research studentsContribute to the general administration of the DepartmentContribute to the academic life of the Department, School and CollegeContribute to the wider educational communityUndertake such other duties as may be assigned by the Appropriate Officer from time to time.Engage in continuing professional development in related subject areas by research, creative practice and other appropriate means of engagement in the sector.Proactively engage with developments within the field including changing and developing technology and techniques.Contribute to the academic life of the Department, School and College and wider educational community. Participate in Department/School/College committees and boards.Selection CriteriaSelection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.Essential CriteriaA significant track record in Design practice and Higher Education teaching with a specialism in Printed TextilesPost-graduate degree in Textile Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experienceA minimum of 3 years industry and/or teaching experienceStrong, demonstrable commitment to research and international scholarship/professional practiceExperience of delivering high quality teaching within a higher education environmentCapacity and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, School and CollegeDemonstrable record of developing and maintaining links with industry and educational partners.Ability to design, coordinate, deliver and assess a range of modules in and related to specialist areas of research/professional interestProficiency in industry standard design softwareExperience and proficiency in working with new and sustainable design methods, tools and processes, maintaining an active interest in related developments within the sector.Analogue and CAD drawing skills.Experience of working with emerging digital design technologies.Commitment to CPD and interest in emerging research, technology and techniquesExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsDesirable CriteriaExperience in working with new design methods, tools and processes, maintaining an active interest in related developments within the sectorExperience of working with emerging digital design technologiesDemonstrable record of developing successful research funding applications and/or industry partnershipsClosing Date: 26th of November 2025
