Overview
We are seeking a GIS Specialist to support a national programme focused on coastal change monitoring and risk management. The role will involve digitisation of coastal assets, GIS data management, and the production of mapping products to support decision-making on hazard assessment and coastal defence management.
Responsibilities
Populate and maintain a Coastal Defence Asset Database, including the identification of natural and engineered coastal assets and input of associated attributes.
Carry out GIS-related data analysis and produce high-quality maps and outputs.
Work with LiDAR, aerial photography, and other remotely sensed datasets.
Support research and piloting of new and innovative coastal monitoring methods.
Provide technical GIS support across a range of environmental and engineering projects.
Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and policy specialists in delivering the national coastal change management strategy.
Ensure all work complies with relevant data standards and quality requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and/or Remote Sensing at NFQ Level 8 or higher, OR
Degree in a cognate discipline (e.g. Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science) at NFQ Level 8 with a postgraduate diploma in GIS and/or Remote Sensing.
At least 1 year's professional experience providing specialist GIS support on client sites.
Strong technical expertise in at least one of the following:
GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS or similar)
LiDAR and aerial photography analysis
Experience working with environmental, coastal, or engineering datasets.
Strong data visualisation and cartographic skills.
Knowledge of asset management systems.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working in multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability to travel to regional sites when required.
