We are currently seeking to recruit Complex Coronary Intervention Fellow - Full Time for a July 2026 startJob Title - Complex Coronary Intervention FellowDepartment - Cardiovascular Research InstituteReports to - Director of the Cath Lab /Director of CardiologyDate RecruitmentPurpose of the PostThe Complex Coronary Intervention fellow will work within the Heart & Vascular Department.The aim of the complex coronary intervention fellowship is to provide the successful candidate with comprehensive cath lab training in the assessment and management of patients with complex patterns of coronary artery disease. We run a dedicated complex PCI list weekly, including complex, high-risk indicated PCI (CHIP) procedures and chronic total occlusion (CTO) PCI procedures. The complex coronary intervention fellow will help the team to deliver the complex PCI program. Over 800 PCI procedures are performed in the Mater Private Network Dublin annually and the complex PCI list averages ~6 PCI procedures per week. Over the course of the yearlong fellowship, the fellow will get both hands on experience and structured education in complex PCI.The Mater Private Group established an academic cardiology department in 2020 as part of its vision and strategic development. A fundamental part of this vision is to ensure that excellence in clinic care is supported by and in turn partners with research and education, both nationally and internationally. The complex coronary intervention fellow will also have the opportunity to partake in academic activities in addition to their clinical cath lab commitments, working in partnership with the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) Dublin.Key Responsibilities and DeliverablesComplex Coronary Intervention Fellow: Training GoalsGain experience in performing complex PCI, including left main disease PCI, two stent bifurcation PCI, advanced calcium modification (rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy) and CHIP procedures.Help to deliver the Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) program and learn how to plan and perform CTO PCILearn how to use intracoronary imaging to guide PCIGain high-volume, first-operator PCI experienceClinical DutiesWork in the Cath Lab with the rostered Consultant Cardiologist.Participate in the out of hours/on call fellow roster, including covering the Urgent Cardiac Care (UCC) service.Attend mandatory weekly departmental meetings including Multi-Disciplinary Team meeting, Dublin Cardiovascular Research Forum (DCRF), Research Meeting.Take part in the roster covering the clinical inpatient service with the rounding Consultant, at the direction of the Director of Cardiology/Director of Cath LabAdhere to all MPN policies on clinical practice.To carry out other duties as appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of the Cath Lab / Director of Cardiology.Clinical Research DutiesActive participation in research studies within the Cath lab.Opportunities to produce academic papers and abstracts, systemic reviews & meta-analysisWork within the standard operating procedures and research protocols associated with industry and academic clinical research activities in accordance with ICH -GCP.Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity is assured and maintained at all times during a research project, in line with data protection legislation.Deliver presentations on research output.Opportunity to attend relevant national and international scientific meetings.QualificationsMedical degree, MBBS or equivalent.Registered or pending registration on the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland.ExperienceCardiology experience at registrar levelExperience working in cardiac catheterisation laboratory as fellow/registrarExperience performing PCI as first operatorJob Specific Competencies and KnowledgeUnderstanding of general Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology proceduresTHE MATER PRIVATE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES EMPLOYEE
