Clinical Specialist Radiographer PACS/RIS Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the overall management of the PACS/RIS (and any associated) systems within the Mercy University Hospital (MUH) and Mercy Injury Unit (MIU). Ensure that the PACS/RIS and associated systems are operating efficiently and within expected performance levels, and that the systems are available for users and meet the imaging & business needs of Radiology and MUH. Provide day-to-day administration of the PACS/RIS services, e.g. image import and distribution, filter checks, management of user accounts & profiles, responding to user queries, etc. Liaise closely with the system vendor(s) in ensuring systems are both available and performing at optimal levels. Ensure that the appropriate radiographic resource is available to the PACS/RIS area as required by service and operational needs. Liaise with the Radiographic Services Manager(s) regarding staff rotation/training within the PACS/RIS domain to ensure continuity of services. Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, workflows and protocols in accordance with up-to-date, evidence based, best practice. Ensure that relevant and up-to-date policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines are available for all users to support the appropriate and effective use of the PACS/RIS systems. Deliver staff training for PACS/RIS usage as required and provide refresher training as necessary. Control and manage access privileges for users based on their individual clinical and/or business needs. Ensure that patient information associated with the PACS/RIS systems (e.g. patient appointment letters, examination information sheets, etc) is up to date and appropriate. Document all relevant incidents or near-miss events on the appropriate NIMS form, and work with the RPA, MPE, and RPO as required. Support the function of specialist multidisciplinary groups, e.g. MDT coordinators, with regard to access to patient images/radiological reports. Liaise internally with MUH departments (e.g. ICT, Medical Records, Quality and Risk Management Department) regarding PACS/RIS issues, system changes and upgrades. Liaise externally with linked hospitals/departments (e.g. CUH Radiology), and with other approved organisations (e.g. NQAIS, HPVP, NTPF, Acute Hospital Division, NIMIS, Image Share, Medica/ External reporting providers, external hospitals, etc.) as required by business needs. Ensure only imaging referrals from designated referrers are accepted, are of net benefit to the patient, are clinically justified, and are in accordance with departmental referral criteria. Ensure imaging services comply with the MUH Radiology Departments Radiation Safety Procedures document, and to be familiar with legislation relevant to the role, especially SI 256 (2018) and SI 30 (2019). Have a comprehensive working knowledge of all imaging, and imaging-related equipment in the clinical environment, and how the modalities interface with the PACS/RIS systems. Responsible for maintaining an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all PACS/RIS related equipment. Ensure QA processes are maintained on all Diagnostic Radiology monitors and to liaise with MPE/RPA and equipment vendors in this regard. Applicants must: Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU ( Possess a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent). Have a minimum of 6 years full time (or an aggregate of 6 years) post qualification clinical experience. Possess considerable and demonstrable previous experience working in the management of a PACS/RIS environment (a relevant post-graduate course is desirable). Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership, and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued. Annual Registration: On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the relevant division of the Radiographers Register as maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU. Practitioners must maintain an up-to-date CPD portfolio inclusive of activities that are complementary to the role, as per registration requirements. Full Job Spec is available on request.
