As part of Phase 2 of the Research Ireland Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, I-Form ( applications are invited for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow position in the area of design for Metal Additive Manufacturing. This project is part of I-Form Platform 3 and its major goal is to develop a suite of advanced software tools that will assist designers and engineers in both part design and the configuration of additive manufacturing process using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies. The project will lead to the development of an advanced AM Design toolbox capable of considering all design and process constraints and parameters. This will help reduce the number of design iterations and builds, as well as minimise the post-processing of the produced parts, while ensuring all requirements related to the mechanical properties of the produced parts are met. The project will involve the integration of the developed tools with commercial Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD / CAM) platforms, enabling designers and manufacturing engineers to explore alternative design and process configurations. The project is expected to deliver novel, state-of-the-art tools that are expected to contribute to more sustainable production of complex parts and assemblies. Applications are sought from outstanding candidates for a position commencing in January 2026. The position will involve significant interaction with other academic, research and industrial organisations.
