Mini-Bus Driver – Killaloe Day Centre
Location: Killaloe Centre at Hill Road, Killaloe, Co. Clare.
Job type: Part‑time permanent contract.
DAYS/HOURS OF WORK
Open to negotiation – minimum 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Required shift schedule:
9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (free period between 11:30 a.m. and return at 2:15 p.m.)
2:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. + an additional 4.5 hours to be worked over Tuesday to Thursday (minimum total of 18 hours per week).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Report to the Day Centre Manager or designated manager.
Adhere to Clarecare policies and procedures in relation to your work.
Maintain confidentiality in all areas of work.
Keep records and files in accordance with Clarecare standards.
Work as part of the wider Clarecare structure and support staff, volunteers, students, and others.
Attend supervision sessions with the line manager.
Maintain professional boundaries with clients, staff, volunteers, external suppliers, etc.
Perform other duties assigned by line manager or designated manager.
Attend meetings related to the Day Care Centre.
Participate in all mandatory and relevant training such as patient moving & handling, infection prevention & control, hand hygiene, basic first aid, etc.
Plan routes for the collection and delivery of clients in conjunction with the Day Centre Manager.
Ensure all clients wear seat belts and wheelchairs are secured.
Build trusting relationships with clients and carers, ensuring they feel secure and welcome.
Report observations or assessments of clients made during the journey in a timely manner to the Day Centre Manager or appropriate person; communicate family member information promptly.
Carry out regular safety checks of the vehicle and equipment (first aid kit) and report findings to the Day Centre Manager.
Keep the vehicle clean and tidy (inside and out) at all times.
Wash the mini‑bus and claim related expenses, providing a receipt to the Day Centre Manager.
Inform the Day Centre Manager of any difficulties with the bus and do not undertake repairs yourself.
Maintain daily mileage records and complete Incident Report forms immediately following any incidents.
Ensure contact with clients is made via the Day Centre Manager; avoid telephone calls to family members unless instructed.
Plan working days ahead of time (e.g. driver and escort assignments).
Refuel the vehicle after evening deliveries to ensure readiness for the next morning.
Use the vehicle only under the direction of the Day Centre Manager and no other purpose.
Wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, mask, apron/gown, etc., as per Clarecare and HSE regulations.
Listen effectively and carry out tasks in a timely manner.
Understand and follow instructions closely.
Use good communication skills and interact socially with clients, peers, staff, and others.
Be a great team player.
Be willing to undertake any other relevant duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Current clean Class D/D1 Driving Licence.
Current Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
Valid Manual Handling/Patient Handling Certification (can be provided by Clarecare).
Interest and passion for caring for older people.
Friendly, positive, helpful and caring attitude towards team members and clients.
Experience of general operative duties and bus checks.
Sound knowledge of Killaloe and surrounding areas.
Physically fit to assist with boarding and disembarkation of the vehicle.
Proven reliability and punctuality with a positive, can‑do attitude.
Ability to work with older people in a professional capacity and understand their needs.
Excellent time‑keeping, communication, organization and interpersonal skills, with initiative and teamwork in a fast‑paced environment.
Positive "fit to work" pre‑employment medical through Clarecare.
Positive Garda vetting disclosure through Clarecare.
Two positive written employment references from current and most recent employer(s) through Clarecare.
Previous professional experience in a care or social work setting.
Minimum of 1 year(s) experience in a similar role is desirable.
Knowledge of the work and ethos of Clarecare.
SALARY
€17.57 gross per hour worked, commensurate with experience, with a further 2% pay increase on 1/10/2026 pending receipt of funding. No additional increases beyond the stated terms are guaranteed.
