We are hiring
Cardiothoracic Registrar
into our Hospital in Cork, Ireland.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive clinical care to patients under the supervision of the Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with cardiac and thoracic conditions in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.
Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including pre-operative preparation, intra-operative support, and post-operative management.
Participate in ward rounds, ensuring accurate documentation, clinical reviews, and implementation of treatment plans.
Manage post-operative patients in ICU/HDU, including monitoring, interpreting investigations, and responding to clinical deterioration.
Perform clinical procedures as required (e.g., chest drain insertion, central line placement, arterial line insertion) within scope of competence.
Request and interpret diagnostic investigations such as ECGs, echocardiograms, blood tests, and imaging relevant to cardiothoracic care.
Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including anaesthetics, cardiology, ICU staff, nursing teams, and allied health professionals.
Provide clear communication and counselling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.
Participate in on-call rotas, emergency response, clinical audits, teaching, research activities, and continuous professional development while adhering to hospital policies and clinical governance standards.
Requirements
Possess a recognised Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent qualification).
Hold current registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) appropriate to the role.
Have relevant experience working as a Cardiothoracic Registrar in an acute hospital environment.
Maintain up-to-date certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Demonstrate a clear commitment to evidence-based medicine and clinical effectiveness in practice.
Show proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, supported by strong communication and interpersonal skills.
