Digital Incubator & Applied AI
The Digital Incubator & Applied AI team is a multidisciplinary group of digital strategists, product innovators, data scientists, and technical experts driving Unum's transformation into an AI‑first digital insurance leader. As Leader for AI Solutions Engineering, you will lead a high‑performing team of ML engineers and AI architects to design and deliver transformative AI solutions. Your leadership will ensure our AI‑driven products meet the highest standards of innovation, scalability, and execution excellence. You will collaborate closely with IT Delivery, Transformation leadership, and Enterprise Architecture to integrate AI into digital products and core systems. This role includes direct management of technical specialists and architects.
The Role
Leadership & Team Development
* Build and mentor a world‑class AI engineering team, fostering innovation and continuous learning.
* Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and create tailored development plans.
AI Product Delivery
* Oversee end‑to‑end development and deployment of AI/ML solutions.
* Ensure scalability, maintainability, and seamless integration into existing workflows.
* Drive delivery using Agile methodologies and MLOps best practices, monitoring KPIs and quality standards.
Responsible AI
* Enforce ethical AI principles and compliance with regulations.
* Partner with legal and security teams to ensure privacy, security, and governance.
* Implement best practices in version control, code reviews, and model evaluation.
Innovation & Continuous Learning
* Stay ahead of emerging AI and data engineering trends.
* Promote a culture of experimentation and learning from failure.
Collaboration & Communication
* Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders.
* Ensure robust data pipelines and collaboration with data engineering teams.
What You Offer
* Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or related field.
* 5–7+ years in IT or technical leadership, with proven delivery of complex AI projects.
* Strong expertise in AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and big data technologies.
* Experience with DataOps, DevOps, and MLOps practices.
* Skilled in Agile/Lean leadership, team building, and stakeholder engagement.
* Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
* Insurance or healthcare experience is a plus.
