Executive Summary
Role Title: Investment Risk Actuary
Function: Reinsurance

Purpose of the role
Athora Life Re is a specialist reinsurance solutions provider for European life insurers, and is part of the Athora Group of companies. Athora Life Re has been operating in Bermuda since 2017 and works closely with the wider Athora Group to develop, execute, and manage asset-intensive reinsurance business in Europe. The company is seeking a proactive individual with a hands-on approach to contribute to its Risk function.
The Investment Risk Actuary will report to the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (“CRCO”) and collaborate with Finance, Investment, and Actuarial teams within Athora Life Re and the wider group to manage risk on the balance sheet.
Key Contribution Areas
1. Stress testing: Lead regular stress and scenario testing, develop and challenge modelling methodologies, and work with cross-border teams. Apply insights to practical risk management solutions.
2. Economic capital: Prepare and review internal capital measures, suggest methodological improvements aligned with business needs.
3. Financial risk Management: Oversee key financial risks including ALM, liquidity, and investment risks; ensure frameworks are embedded and effective.
4. Risk framework: Monitor and review risk policies and limits, ensure compliance, and oversee remedial actions.
5. CISSA report: Contribute to the annual CISSA report.
6. Board materials: Prepare materials for leadership and governance meetings highlighting key insights.
Skills and Experience
* Actuarial, CFA, or equivalent qualification.
* At least 5 years’ experience in life (re)insurance or consulting.
* Knowledge of non-vanilla investments and derivatives for ALM risk management.
* Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
* Adaptability and thought leadership in risk management.
Desirable characteristics include knowledge of Bermuda EBS regime, reinsurance balance sheet dynamics, internal capital models, and strong project management skills.
