Data Centre/Mission Critical Specialist at TGS
Role: Design Manager – Mission-Critical Construction Projects
Location: Kilkenny, Ireland
Type: Permanent
TGS are working with a leading international contractor specialising in the design and delivery of high-tech and mission-critical facilities. With a strong reputation across the data centre, pharmaceutical, and advanced manufacturing sectors, the company provides turnkey solutions from design through to construction and commissioning.
An increase in demand for their services means they are on the look out for a Design Manager to oversee critical projects across Europe. You may be based anywhere in Europe, with travel to sites required as part of the role.
What you’ll be doing
* Overseeing the design function across multiple projects, ensuring drawings and technical packages are delivered on time and meet client expectations.
* Managing internal design resources and coordinating with external stakeholders including architects, consultants, engineers, and client reps.
* Creating and maintaining clear design schedules and deliverables, ensuring alignment with overall project timelines.
* Producing obligation matrices to clarify contractual design responsibilities.
* Reviewing commercial documentation to verify that all quoted elements are covered in the design.
* Leading design risk assessments and managing changes in scope to mitigate commercial risk.
* Keeping product and design libraries current and ensuring the team is aware of supplier capabilities and innovations.
* Supporting procurement teams with technical input for supplier selections and approvals.
* Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors through consistent communication and delivery.
* Contributing to project handovers with full design documentation as per quality standards.
What we’re looking for
* A background in design management within construction or engineering – preferably across data centres, cleanrooms, manufacturing, or other complex environments.
* A relevant professional qualification in a design or engineering discipline.
* Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing technical deliverables from pre-construction through to project completion.
* Solid understanding of technical drawings, design compliance, and commercial implications.
* Great communication and interpersonal skills – you’ll be liaising with everyone from suppliers to senior clients.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace tools.
