As part of the long established McCulla Group specialising in providing Ambient, Chilled and Frozen logistics solutions throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom and Europe, we have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Plant Operations Manager for our Alternity Biogas Energy Ltd company, part of the McCulla Ireland Group business, as well as integrating into various plant operations and engineering requirements for the whole of the McCulla Ireland Group.
Alternity Biogas Energy Ltd (ABEL) operates an Anaerobic Digestion and Bio-methane/ CNG production site at our Lisburn Head Quarters.
Our vision is to drive our world Award winning circular economy model, where we create energy from waste to feed our CNG Gas powered trucks.
Our Biocycle process is currently working towards the highest of engineering standards, whilst meeting world class manufacturing requirements and quality regulations.
This innovated business has received multiple awards across Green Transport & Green Energy solutions recognised locally, regionally, nationally and at world level.
The Person
The ABEL Plant Manager will ideally be from a manufacturing production or engineering maintenance leadership background.
They will provide and manage the site to ensure a safe working environment with an efficient and reliable process.
They will be responsible for managing and developing a team of employees to ensure the plant operates to meet all current KPIs and compliance requirements, for sustainability and ensure the strategy and vision for continuous improvement and growth is at the forefront of the day-to-day operations.
They will report to the McCulla Ireland Directorship.
Ideally be from a six sigma or lean manufacturing background, and know how to manage a P&L, CMMS system, I/Os data and be forward thinking across various manufacturing tools for root causes analysis, cause and effect, cost benefit etc.
Main Duties
Effective leadership of the plant team through deployment and various management tools.
Responsible for all health & safety and conformance protocol(s).
To include maintaining and enforcing site risk assessments, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work procedures.
Ensuring all staff and contractors are trained, equipped, and supervised to work safely and in compliance with site rules.
Operate the plant within the limits of the Environmental Permit, ensuring no unauthorised releases to air, water, or land.
Oversee and document all emissions monitoring, waste management, and digestate quality testing in line with PAS110 and other relevant standards.
Lead on compliance audits and manage follow-up actions to maintain continuous regulatory conformity.
Ensure all policies, procedures, and work instructions are up to date and reflect current legal and operational requirements.
Maximise plant and resource efficiency for continuous improvement.
Build and maintain meaningful customer relationships at all levels.
Responsible to ensure all repairs and maintenance upkeep of the plant.
Responsibility and reporting of all operational records, trend analysis, KPIs and P&L to the board & senior management to meet the required deadlines.
Ensuring accuracy in reporting, developing and integrating of all regulatory submissions.
Continuous employee development and retention of the plant team for career satisfaction.
Strategic and innovative involvement for future projects, expansions and business success as part of the leadership team and business group.
Ensuring the ABEL plant maximises in all gas productivity and efficiency, mitigating financial loss and to continue to supply our main customer-based operations through integration and scheduling with McCulla transport, all logistical requirements for fuelling GAS powered vehicles across the company for continual success and customer satisfaction.
Criteria
At least 2 years previous experience operating in a similar role within a processing / production environment or within an industry focused on the production of green energy.
Proficient in the use of IT Microsoft and system skills.
Effective management and leadership skills to motivate, task, and challenge and build others within your team.
With a proven track record of developing and upskilling others through a skills matrix system.
Must demonstrate a hands-on approach linked to the operational needs in every facet of the plant.
Able to use various scientific based tools to analyse, identify and report key trends and data to make effective and key decisions with accountability to the board.
Proficient in time management, with a flexible view to working hours.
Integration experience beneficial to the role, especially with managing the P&L, KPIs, CAPEX and PO system, R&D, ROI and Projects for sustainability.
Overseeing and implementing manufacturing and production processed KPIs and data.
Upkeeping, creating and implementing daily, weekly, monthly and annual production schedules to ensure the continual growth and reliability of the plant to meet all projected targets.
Procuring process equipment and taking overall responsibility for the maintaining of the plant and the ABEL Technical departments development.
Striving to reduce expenses and increase productivity across all plant processes, use of OEE and other system-based tools to ensure availability, quality and efficiency to world class standards.
Communicating any problems or obstacles to senior management that can impact the operational needs of the plant and group.
Monitoring all standards and quality control in the context to all regulatory standards for conformance in ABEL.
Implementing and overseeing all the companys current procedures and policies.
