Post: Post-Doctoral Researcher in Bio-based Material Development - School of Food Science & Environmental Health (Fixed Term, Specified Purpose, Whole-time, up to 5 years, with initial funding for 48 months) (Reference: 180/2025)
Location: The post will be primarily based at the TU Dublin Grangegorman campus, with research activities also at TU Dublin Tallaght campus, Teagasc Food Research Centre (Dublin), and other TU Dublin campuses. Occasional travel may be required.
Hours of Work: 37 hours/week
Salary: €48,412 gross per annum, at point (01) of the Post-Doctoral Researcher Salary Scale. Salary may be adjusted in line with Government pay policy, with possible incremental credits according to university policy.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:
* PhD (completed or viva passed) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field focusing on biobased materials or nanocellulose/lignin production.
* Experience with Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES), biomass pretreatment, and lignocellulosic fractionation.
* Hands-on experience with power ultrasound and sub-critical fluid extraction systems.
* Experience conducting Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) using SimaPro for biobased processes or products.
* Research profile with peer-reviewed publications in nanocellulose and/or lignin production from lignocellulosic biomass.
Desirable Criteria:
* Proficiency in experimental design and data analysis tools such as MATLAB, SPSS, or Origin.
* Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and manage time effectively.
* Proven collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams.
* Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex datasets and troubleshooting experiments.
* Willingness to engage in mentoring, training, and knowledge transfer activities.
