What you can expect in a typical day
:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the Mechanical safety and performance, in design and life cycle of all mechanical installations and equipment This is to ensure that all new and modifications to existing mechanical equipment is designed in accordance with relevant standards, specifications, regulatory requirements and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
:
* Ensure alignment with new Mechanical legislation, driving company awareness and requirements.
* Assist with the stewardship of mechanical technical documents, practices and vendor lists.
* Provide day to day engineering support to Maintenance, Operations and HSE as required.
* Develop the Mechanical procurement technical information of major equipment replacements as needed.
* Input into the delivery of the 'Investigate' and 'Develop' stages of the IDEA design process for mechanical engineering.
* Work cross-functionally with other disciplines in the design process to deliver optimal solutions.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of all 'Process Safety Information' (PSI) pertaining to mechanical assets for the Whitegate site.
* Deliver solutions for repeat mechanical asset reliability problems and sustaining projects.
* Review and approve mechanical designs performed by the Mechanical contractor, are safe for operations and maintenance, optimized and comply with the relevant specifications, codes and standards.
* Ensure compliance with responsibilities as defined in the Company's Health, Safety & Environment Policy.
* Participation in Design Reviews including HAZOP/PHA/HAZID/SIL/LOPA/3D model reviews as necessary.
* Review and approve mechanical technical queries, design changes and technical deviation requests raised by the Contractor in a timely manner.
* Act as technical resource during emergency response activities in accordance with Emergency Response Plan.

Education and Experience:
* Relevant Mechanical Engineering Degree and 2+ years of experience in heavy industry on large industrial sites.
* Contribute to an environment of collaboration amongst the Engineering Design team
* Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and influence stakeholders
* Ability to understand and develop business cases, understand cost/benefit models and ability to take calculated risks
* Capability to lead change
