Job Description


Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) is the largest education and training provider in Kilkenny and Carlow, offering a broad range of services to approximately 25,000 students and learners annually. It manages 13 post‑primary schools across the two counties and is the leading provider of Further Education and Training (FET). Through its FET Service, KCETB offers a wide range of full‑time and part‑time courses such as apprenticeships, basic education, community education and Youthreach, as well as student supports and services for employers. The Board also manages music education through the Music Generation programme and coordinates the delivery of youth services.

This Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP) provides participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. It is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments, those transferring from a social welfare scheme, or an ETB Training Allowance. Eligibility will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.


Role Description


The Communications Assistant will support the Communications Officer in the Information Technology and Governance Department (ITG). The role lasts six months, 30 hours per week, and offers practical experience and training in communications, including writing press releases, developing news stories, event management and digital media.


Responsibilities

* Assisting with general functions of the ITG department
* Drafting press releases and compiling press lists
* Proofreading and editing communications materials
* Assisting with event planning, promotion and onsite coordination
* Assisting with the operation of core social media accounts
* Drafting visual content for various online platforms
* Assisting in creating video for social content
* Assisting with maintaining web presence
* Assisting with raising invoices on the finance system
* Other duties as assigned


Training and Development


The program includes informal training, shadowing, observation, and formal training in communication tools and platforms: WordPress, SharePoint, Canva, Adobe Express. Participants will also receive training in media relations, digital communications, graphic design, video editing, brand identity, analytics, and time management.


Candidate Requirements

* Minimum experience required: 0 years (no prior experience necessary)
* Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form.

All applicants must be eligible for the Work Placement Experience Programme as described above.
