OverviewEnvironmental Co-Ordinator role based in Co. Waterford (on-site 4x week, WFH 1x week). Travel will be required. The Environmental Specialist will oversee environmental compliance, sustainability practices, and resource management on pig farms, ensuring slurry management, water usage, air quality, and waste handling meet regulatory standards while promoting efficient and sustainable farming practices. This role protects the environment, supports animal health, safeguards community relations, and ensures compliance with EPA Licenses conditions.ResponsibilitiesEnvironmental Compliance & ReportingEnsure compliance with environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, Local Council, Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Marine).Maintain accurate records of waste management, water quality testing, energy consumption, nutrient management plans, and required permits.Prepare and submit environmental reports in a timely manner.Slurry & Nutrient ManagementMonitor, manage, and document slurry storage and land application in accordance with license conditions and the Nitrates Directive.Develop and oversee nutrient management plans that optimise soil fertility while protecting waterways.Train staff and contractors on proper slurry handling and application techniques.Water & Air Quality ManagementMonitor water usage and implement conservation strategies.Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with slurry storage requirements, runoff, and groundwater protection standards.Support odour and air quality management strategies in line with BAT conclusions to maintain good community relations.Sustainability & Continuous ImprovementIdentify opportunities to improve farm sustainability practices (e.g., renewable energy, recycling programs, resource efficiency in line with BAT).Collaborate with farm leadership to implement environmental best practices in line with BAT requirements.Stay current with emerging technologies and regulations in a sector regulated by the EPA, DAFM, and Bord Bia.Training & CommunicationProvide environmental compliance training to farm staff.Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, consultants, and community stakeholders regarding environmental issues.Manage EDEN and AgFood portals across all farms.Qualifications & RequirementsAdvanced English-language competency (reading, writing, conversational).Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Animal Science, Natural Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience).Knowledge of livestock production systems, preferably pig operations (training will be provided).Familiarity with environmental regulations related to agriculture (water, waste, air, and slurry).Strong organisational and recordkeeping skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively with farm staff and regulatory bodies.Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.Experience with nutrient management planning and slurry application.Experience in dealing with various departments within the EPA, such as Licensing and Enforcement, is an advantage.Full Irish driver’s licence.Job DetailsSeniority level: Mid-Senior levelEmployment type: Full-timeJob function: Science, Project Management, and ResearchIndustries: Environmental Services, Farming and Agriculture, Construction, Mining Machinery ManufacturingGet notified about new Environmental Coordinator jobs in County Waterford, Ireland.
