of Health scale) The Head of Quality, Patient Safety & Risk is a senior leadership role within the organisation, responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of the services Quality, Safety and Risk (QSR) function.
Reporting directly to the Deputy CEO/Chief Operations Officer and serving as a key member of the Executive Management Team, the successful candidate will lead the implementation of robust clinical governance, incident management, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure excellence in patient care and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and delivery of quality improvement programmes aligned with national standards (HIQA, HSE, Safer Better Healthcare).
Manage clinical risk, adverse event reviews, incident investigations, and promote learning through open disclosure and systemic analysis.
Oversee the services Quality Management System, Clinical Audit Programme, and Risk Register maintenance.
Support the integration of risk and quality strategies into hospital operations, enabling a proactive patient safety culture.
Act as the services key liaison for internal and external audits, statutory reporting, and claims coordination (e.g.
SCA, Coroner).
Advise leadership on trends and insights through detailed data analysis, KPIs, and performance reporting.
Facilitate training, staff development, and cross-functional collaboration across clinical and non-clinical areas.
Represent the hospital at external forums and national-level quality and safety initiatives.
Essential Criteria: Minimum of 5 years senior managerial experience in a quality and patient safety role within an acute hospital inpatient setting.
A Level 8 (or higher) qualification in a clinical discipline or in Risk/Quality in Healthcare (QQI or equivalent).
Proven track record in incident management, risk assessment, quality improvement and stakeholder engagement.
Advanced knowledge of Irish healthcare standards, relevant legislation, and national policy frameworks.
Strong leadership, decision-making, analytical, and communication skills.
