Applied AI & UX Solutions Specialist
Location: Sligo, Ireland (National and International Travel Required)
Type: Full-Time / 3 Year Fixed-Term Contract
Reports to: Director of AI, AIM Centre
About the Role
The AIM Centre is seeking an Applied AI & UX Solutions Specialist to design, prototype, and deliver user-facing digital platforms that combine applied AI with intuitive, human-centred front-end experiences.
You will play a key role in the Centre’s strategic digital innovation projects, helping industry and public-sector partners turn discovery insights into working prototypes and scalable solutions. This role blends hands-on AI prototyping with front-end web development and UX design, ensuring that platforms are technically effective, usable, and impactful.
Key Responsibilities
Discovery & Use Case Definition
Participate in data discovery sessions, site visits, and co-creation workshops with partners.
Translate business and societal challenges into clearly scoped, feasible use cases.
Develop technical briefs, service blueprints, and user journey maps to guide solution design.
AI Solution Prototyping
Rapidly build PoC/PoV demonstrators using no-code/low-code platforms (e.g. n8n, V0.dev, Zapier) and LLM frameworks.
Integrate APIs, pre-trained models, and workflow automations into functional prototypes.
Document architecture, data flows, limitations, and potential scale-up paths.
Front-End Development & UX
Lead the design and development of web-based front-end interfaces.
Build dashboards, data visualisations, and user flows using modern web technologies (e.g. React/JS, REST APIs, charting libraries).
Ensure solutions meet accessibility, inclusivity, and engagement standards.
Translate UX design concepts (e.g. in Figma) into production-ready, user-facing applications.
Work collaboratively with distributed technical teams to align front-end delivery with back-end and AI components.
Collaboration & Delivery
Present concepts, demos, and updates to stakeholders in clear, engaging formats.
Coordinate with SMEs, public sector bodies, and academic teams to balance user needs with technical feasibility.
Contribute to project documentation, reporting, and knowledge-sharing activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
1–3 years’ experience in a role spanning AI, data, software engineering, and UX/front-end development.
Proficiency in front-end development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React (or similar frameworks), and integration with REST APIs.
Proficiency in no-code/low-code platforms, workflow automation, and API integrations
Experience building dashboards and data visualisations (e.g. D3.js, Chart.js, Recharts, or equivalent).
Proven UX design experience, with advanced skills in Figma or equivalent tools.
Ability to map user journeys and develop service blueprints.
Strong problem-solving mindset — able to turn concepts into working, user-ready prototypes.
Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience working with distributed or cross-functional teams.
Willingness to travel within Ireland (~1–2 days/week during key phases) and Nordic countries (Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland).
Desirable Skills
Familiarity with LLM orchestration tools (e.g. OpenAI API, LangChain).
Knowledge of intelligent automation and AI integration patterns.
Experience with digital matchmaking, knowledge exchange, CRM platforms.
Experience with cloud-based delivery of web applications.
Knowledge of SME operational environments or public sector digital transformation.
Expertise in inclusive and accessible design principles.
