Overview
Senior Data Scientist role at Optum. This is a full-time position based in Ireland with a hybrid work model (Dublin or Letterkenny offices with home-based telecommuting possible).
Working arrangements
This is a full-time position with standard working hours of Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. Optum offers flexible work arrangements. Individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid model.
Primary Responsibilities
* Be an independent thinker and advocate of data science methods, software engineering, and applications
* Research, develop and apply new innovative analytics methods and technologies from other domains to healthcare data
* Demonstrate critical thinking beyond your immediate sphere of responsibility
* Work with autonomy and in partnership with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, and Infrastructure Engineers to solve complex problems
* Leverage technical/analytical expertise across the enterprise to architect, deploy and oversee analytics and technology solutions
* Prototype new products and solutions with potential to transform the industry
* Articulate a vision with strong communication and presentation skills, translating complex concepts, results, models and technologies for diverse audiences
* Stay informed about state-of-the-art big data analytics and related technologies
* Experience in Commercial environments and/or Product development
* Lead a variety of projects including proofs of concept, new product/component development, and reengineering initiatives
* Collaborate as part of a small team, sharing ideas and contributing to strategic goals
Required Qualifications – Senior Data Scientist
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer/Statistics or equivalent experience
* Experience in analytics/data science in business or academic contexts
* Demonstrated experience using programming to solve complex technical problems
* Experience accessing data from various data environments
Advanced Qualifications
* Master's Degree or PhD in a technical field (e.g., computer science, science, engineering, math/stats, physics)
* Core knowledge of statistics, machine learning and numerical/computational methods with application to business problems
* Extensive programming experience with Python/PySpark/Pandas/Polars or other analytics languages
* Experience working within a software development team and using version control systems such as Git
* Experience with large-scale distributed computing environments (Hadoop, Hive, Databricks, etc.)
* Experience developing analytical solutions on cloud platforms (e.g., Azure)
* Experience in the US Healthcare sector
