Our client, a

, is seeking a
Senior Automation Engineer (Controls)
to join their expanding engineering team based in
Galway
.
This is a key technical leadership role, ideal for an experienced controls expert ready to drive the architecture, design, and commissioning of complex automated equipment solutions. You will work with cutting-edge technologies in a highly collaborative environment, delivering end-to-end automation systems used in the manufacture of life-saving medical devices.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Lead the design and integration of advanced control systems for automated equipment (PLCs, Robotics, Motion Control, HMI, SCADA, Vision).
* Define and maintain robust software architecture and coding standards for automation projects.
* Develop, test, debug, and commission control system software for new and existing machines.
* Provide technical mentorship and leadership to Controls Engineers and cross-functional project teams.
* Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software teams across the full project lifecycle.
* Specify and evaluate control system components for performance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
* Support the creation of validation documentation (URS, FDS, FAT, etc.) for regulated environments.
* Lead problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives within the controls function.
* Stay ahead of industry trends and technologies to drive innovation and automation excellence.
Job Requirements:
* 8+ years' experience in equipment automation, with deep expertise in PLC and HMI development (preferably Allen Bradley / Rockwell platforms).
* Proven experience leading the design, development, and delivery of complex automated machinery.
* In-depth knowledge of control system architecture, motion control, robotics, vision systems, and pneumatics.
* Track record of success in regulated industries, such as medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
* Experience developing solutions compliant with GAMP, ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 11, or equivalent standards.
* Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute strategically to technology roadmaps.
