Technical Officer/Senior Technical Officer - Technical Support (School of Engineering)
JOB SYNOPSIS The successful candidate will provide multidisciplinary day-to-day technical support across the School of Engineering's teaching laboratories, workshops, research facilities, undergraduate Final Year Projects (FYPs), master's projects, and other student and research activities.
The role requires strong practical skills and proven industrial experience in electrical and electronics engineering, including troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of laboratory and workshop equipment (such as CNC machines, lathes, 3D printers, welders, ovens/furnaces, waterjet cutters, grinders, instrumentation systems, and associated electrical/mechanical apparatus).
Responsibilities
Provide hands-on technical support across teaching laboratories, workshops and research facilities.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and maintain laboratory and workshop equipment (e.g., CNC machines, lathes, 3D printers, welders, ovens/furnaces, waterjet cutters, grinders, instrumentation systems).
Design, build and test electronic circuits; support data acquisition (DAQ) systems and sensor integration.
Support programming environments (e.g., LabVIEW, Arduino, MATLAB) and assist with practical fabrication, prototyping and modification using CAD packages (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Provide flexible, proactive equipment upkeep and project support to academics, postgraduates, researchers and students across multiple engineering disciplines.
Assist with undergraduate labs as required, including setting up equipment and providing instruction to students and teaching assistants.
Maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment and ensure equipment is ready for use in teaching and research activities.
Qualifications and Skills
Strong practical skills and proven experience in electrical and electronics engineering.
Experience with troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of laboratory/workshop equipment and systems.
Hands-on expertise in building and testing electronic circuits and data acquisition systems.
Proficiency with sensor integration and programming environments (LabVIEW, Arduino, MATLAB).
Experience with CAD packages such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Excellent problem-solving abilities, adaptability and a proactive approach to equipment upkeep and project support.
