The Role:
Bayside Community Centre is seeking a board member with finance expertise.
Role Requirements and Key Responsibilities Include:
Advise and guide the board on all financial matters.
Evaluate and monitor the adequacy of finance policies and procedures and ensure that the charity is compliant with best practice principles.
Member of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee.
Skills and Experience Required
1 Financial Expertise: a qualified accountant who has operated at a senior level for at least five years.
2 Governance and Compliance Leadership: Familiarity with SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) standards, Charities Regulator requirements and best practice in financial governance.
3 Financial management and oversight: ability to interpret financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
4 Audit and Risk Oversight: understanding of internal controls, risk frameworks, and compliance.
5 Strategic planning: experienced in aligning financial decisions with long‑term organisational goals.
Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Board Member:
Comply with the charity’s governing document.
Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
Act in the best interest of the charity.
Act with reasonable care and skill.
Manage the assets of your charity.
Board Meetings:
The board meets 10 times per year, normally on Monday evenings at 7.30pm. Board meetings are typically two hours in duration.
Committees:
The successful candidate will be expected to establish the finance function of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee. The Committee has two current members, including a Committee Chair. The Committee normally meets between before board meetings and are typically one hour in duration (meetings can be virtual or in person, whichever is suitable for the members).
Trustees are elected for a three year term, with the possibility to be re‑elected twice.
This is not a remunerated board role.
