Overview of Role
UPMC Aut Even Hospital are recruiting a Medical Scientist on a fixed-term contract.
The post will lead the Point of Care Testing (POCT) and Specimen Management Programme, ensuring best practice, compliance with standards and associated regulations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and support management of histology and pathology specimens from all clinical areas within the hospital.
Lead and support preparation and transportation of all samples in line with Hospital policy.
Coordinate traceability of samples distributed to the various locations.
Coordinate transport of specimens.
Support critical indicator distribution and result reporting via the Health Link IT System, ensuring results are printed and sent to relevant departments.
Support tracking and distribution of all other results and ensure cross-referencing and traceability.
Manage storage of specimens with the specimen reception lab.
Duties and Responsibilities (POCT)
Lead the POCT Programme in accordance with ISO ***** and ISO ***** requirements.
Support staff with appropriate training and competency programmes for each instrument.
Maintain training records.
Ensure internal quality control records are completed.
Ensure external quality assurance materials are distributed and records completed.
Collaborate with the Hospital Pharmacist to monitor reagent and control storage.
Monitor reagents and controls in use at the testing area for expiry dates.
General
Provide satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed.

Work with line manager to plan, monitor, analyse, and improve all quality programmes.
Participate in developing performance indicators with department manager and business objectives.
Initiate, participate in, and evaluate audit according to JCI, Hospital policy and Lean requirements under guidance.

Co-operate with UPMC to ensure safety, health, and welfare at work and report any potential dangers.
Attend annual education session on Fire Health & Safety.
Information Governance
During employment you may have access to sensitive information concerning patients and staff.
Such records and information are strictly confidential and may only be disclosed on authorised instructions.
They must never be left in a manner that allows unauthorised access and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.
Qualifications & Experience
BSc in Science (preferably Medical Science)
Experience with Point of Care Testing (Cobas System)
Knowledge of specimen management (labelling, handling, transportation)
Minimum 2 years' experience working in a clinical laboratory
Excellent IT skills
POCT device management
Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards in the work area
Good communication and organisational skills
Good attention to detail
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
