Role Overview
ATG are seeking a Marine Ecologist to join a growing Galway team.
The successful candidate will contribute expertise in marine ecology, survey design, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and marine policy.
You will work on a range of projects including offshore renewables, coastal developments, and conservation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design, plan, and undertake field surveys (intertidal, subtidal, benthic, fisheries, and marine mammal monitoring).
Analyse ecological and environmental data, producing technical reports and GIS outputs.
Lead or contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Appropriate Assessments (AA), and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA).
Provide specialist input into marine planning, conservation, and policy-related projects.
Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and best practice.
Support project management, budget tracking, and delivery of high-quality outputs on time.
Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued development of the marine ecology team.
Experience: Degree in Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline (MSc or PhD desirable).
Minimum 3 years' professional experience in marine ecology or related consultancy role.
Strong knowledge of marine ecosystems, habitats, and species relevant to Ireland's waters.
Proven experience in marine ecological survey methods and data analysis.
Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
Familiarity with Irish and EU environmental legislation, particularly the Habitats and Birds Directives.
Competency in GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS) and statistical analysis packages (e.g. R).
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Experience with offshore renewable energy, aquaculture, or marine infrastructure projects.
Diving qualifications or boat handling experience.
Marine mammal observation (MMO) or passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) certification.
