Senior Radiographer - UPMC Aut Even

Overview of role:
To work with the Radiology Services Manager in providing a quality radiology service to all patients attending UPMC Aut Even, in line with professional best practice and hospital guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work knowledge of Radiology policies & procedures, and their implementation.
2. Provision of a high-quality clinical imaging service.
3. Ensure all audit requirements are undertaken.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant modalities.
5. Manage the list of examinations each day, including scheduled out-patients and urgent in-patients or out-patients.
6. Operate diagnostic imaging equipment safely, including ancillary equipment required for clinical duties.
7. Ensure safe operation of all equipment associated with quality control and administration of contrast.
8. Communicate clearly with department staff, Radiologists, wards, and other hospital departments to ensure effective clinical operations.
9. Accept and justify routine diagnostic imaging referrals in line with protocol.
10. Discuss all non-routine examination protocols with Radiologists to ensure proper adherence to clinical protocols.
11. Complete and maintain documentation related to ordering, administration, and scanning with diagnostic imaging modalities.
12. Properly identify all patients according to hospital policy.
13. Have comprehensive knowledge of procedures and safety related to MRI, Ultrasound, Radiation, and contrast agents.
14. Be responsible for MRI and Radiation safety measures.
15. Perform Quality Assurance testing of diagnostic imaging modalities as per policy.
16. Monitor and report equipment faults.
17. Carry out manual handling procedures safely with patients.
18. Ensure safe use of patient trolleys and wheelchairs.
19. Observe medical emergency and cardiac arrest procedures.
20. Train and supervise healthcare assistants in Radiology.
21. Practice infection control procedures, especially with infectious patients and cleaning protocols.
22. Clean diagnostic imaging units regularly, including scanners and rooms, following infection control and MRI safety policies.
23. Manage stock ordering and inventory levels.
24. Participate in on-call duties on a rotational basis.
25. Coordinate with RPO and Medical Physics on safety and operational issues.
26. Communicate effectively with the Radiography Services Manager regarding referral patterns, workload, and waiting times.
27. Assist in team building and training of Radiography staff.
28. Notify the Radiography Services Manager of leave according to hospital policy.
29. Maintain an environment conducive to learning and development.
Education, Training & Development:
1. Identify training needs and develop in-service training programs.
2. Stay updated with hospital training and developments.
3. Maintain current knowledge of clinical, technical, and radiological advances.
4. Report changes in best practices to staff after attending study days.
5. Take responsibility for personal learning and contribute to team development.
General:
1. Work in other hospital areas as needed based on patient requirements.
2. Provide evidence of training and experience upon request.
3. Respect hospital values and policies.

1. Participate actively in quality and safety initiatives.
2. Work with line managers to monitor and improve quality programs.
3. Develop performance indicators aligned with department and organizational goals.
4. Participate in audits and evaluations under guidance.
Health & Safety:
1. Ensure personal and others' safety and report hazards.
2. Attend annual fire, health, and safety training sessions.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree in Radiography or Diploma of The College of Radiographers.
* Registered with CORU Radiographers Registration Board.
* Minimum 3 years post-qualification clinical experience.
* Postgraduate qualification or specialized modality experience (desirable).
