The role of an IT Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Strategist is critical in safeguarding IT infrastructure, services, and operations across the organisational environment. This position requires a skilled professional who can drive strategic and operational resilience by coordinating preparedness activities, leading testing cycles, and ensuring that business continuity and recovery plans are comprehensive, actionable, and current.
About the Role
This role is responsible for directing the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of IT Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity strategies across the groups technology functions.
* Enterprise Resilience Leadership: Direct the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of IT Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity strategies across the groups technology functions.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with leaders and operational stakeholders across multiple business units to align DR/BCM strategies with organisational objectives.
* Vendor Coordination: Partner with managed service providers and third-party vendors to ensure their recovery responsibilities meet agreed standards and SLAs.
* Business Impact Analysis: Lead the creation and maintenance of Business Impact Assessments (BIAs) to identify and prioritise essential services and the resources required for their recovery.
* Documentation & Tooling Maintenance: Ensure all DR/BCM documentation, including BIAs, BCPs, and risk assessments, is consistently reviewed, updated, and accessible.
* Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Evaluate and report on the impact of risks on mission-critical systems and functions, and collaborate with the IT Risk Manager to drive prioritised risk mitigation plans.
* Major Incident Response: Serve as a key IT responder during major incidents requiring the invocation of disaster recovery or business continuity protocols.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
* Proven experience in leading DR/BCM initiatives within large, complex IT environments.
* Strong knowledge of industry-standard frameworks (e.g., ISO 22301, NIST SP 800-34, ITIL).
* Experience working with external vendors and managed service providers on DR/BCM delivery.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct Business Impact Analyses and risk assessments.
* Hands-on experience with coordinating and executing DR test plans and documenting results.
* Strong analytical, planning, and communication skills.
