The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, documentation, and delivery of electrical systems for bespoke robotics and packaging automation equipment (e.g., cartoners, casepackers, palletisers, and integrated special-purpose machinery).
The role ensures that electrical designs are safe, meet functional requirements, comply with industry standards, and are delivered on time to support machine build, FAT, and site installation.
Key Responsibilities Design electrical systems for bespoke packaging equipment.
Produce detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings (EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical).
Specify and select components and safety devices, working with applications, software/controls and mechanical engineering.
Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support purchasing and manufacturing.
Ensure that the electrical components integrate well with mechanical components and control panels, that field wiring can be performed efficiently, and that maintainability and safety are achieved.
Design compliance with relevant standards (EN *******, IEC, UL, NFPA, Machinery Directive, ISO *****).
Work closely with mechanical, controls/software and manufacturing engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
Ensure controls/software, and project teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Provide design support during panel build, machine assembly, commissioning, FAT, and SAT.
Maintain and improve standard design practices, templates, and libraries.
Identify opportunities to improve electrical design efficiency, component standardization, and system reliability.
Essential Requirements: Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years experience in electrical design for special-purpose machinery, automation, or packaging equipment.
Proficiency in electrical CAD software (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar).
Strong knowledge of industrial automation (PLC, HMI, VFDs, motion, safety systems).
Familiarity with machine directive, machine safety standards (ISO *****, IEC *****) and electrical standards (EN *******).
Experience with control panel design and component sizing (motors, drives, power distribution).
Ability to produce accurate BOMs and technical documentation.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence across engineering and customer teams Willingness to travel (approx. 10%) for client collaboration Preferred Requirements: Professional Engineering certification, MIET or equivalent.
Experience in the food or pharmaceutical automation sector (cGMP, FDA, GAMP).
Hands-on experience in panel build, machine wiring, and commissioning support.
Knowledge of robotics (Delta, SCARA, cobots) and vision systems.
Experience with Schneider, Rockwell, or Siemens automation platforms.
Familiarity with validation and documentation requirements for regulated industries.
Exposure to CE marking, UL compliance, or other international standards.
Knowledge of 3D CAD or mechanical/electrical integration principles.
Continuous improvement mindset with interest in new automation technologies.
